NBA Player Prop Picks for Wednesday: Trust Trey Lyles
I love to gamble. It's just fun. There's something about betting on a guy to do something and then turning on your television and watching him do what you said he would do. I can't get enough of it. Since that's the case, I think we should gamble again tonight. There are 11 NBA games on the slate tonight. That means that we should easily be able to find a guy or two to target in the prop market. That's just a big old fact. Here is an obvious one I found without really even looking.

Trey Lyles Over 14.5 Points (-130)
Line Available at DraftKings at Time of Publishing
I'm at DraftKings because they are the only ones with this line besides BetMGM. The issue with BetMGM is they want -135 for 14.5 points. Neither FanDuel or Barstool has anything posted for Lyles but that could change prior to tip-off. This is Covid basketball people, anything is possible.
Do I want to back Trey Lyles to do anything? Not really, but I will say this about the guy, he can score. A little. He's getting playing time because the Pistons are missing a ton of guys but he's actually not looking that bad. He's only played 30+ minutes twice this season but both times he scored in the double digits.
I don't care about points though, I'm looking for shots. Obviously, we want the ball to go in the hoop but we're not psychics. We can't tell before the game if a guy is going to be on fire or not. (I wish I could.) All I am looking to do every night is take a guy to score a minimal amount of points while taking a ton of shots. That could happen tonight.
In the last two games getting real playing time, Lyles has taken at least 12 shots in both games. He only scored 11 points last time out but he never got to the free throw line which could change tonight. Lyles shoots 83% from the charity stripe and only six teams in the NBA allow more free throw attempts per game than Charlotte. They put the Wizards on the line 31 times the other night.
The free throw attempts might just be the icing on the cake since the Hornets allow more points per game to centers than any other team in the association. Just last game Daniel Gafford dropped 15 on them and he only averages 9.7 points per game. In the game before that, Jalen Smith hung 19 points in just 23 minutes. Lyles could easily score 15+ tonight.
