The Houston Rockets let us down yesterday, but that's ok! You can't win them all! Except for today, because that's exactly what we're trying to do!

Let's start with the Memphis Grizzlies, who will be taking on the Los Angeles Clippers later today. Memphis continues to show the world that it's possible to become a borderline contender if your draft wisely and commit to player development, and they're becoming a loveable team because of that. The Grizzlies have won their last 6 games, defeating some tough teams during that stretch such as the Phoenix Suns and Brooklyn Nets. Ja Morant is on a mission to prove he's the best young guard in the league, and Memphis is teeming with multi-faceted talent across the board - it's incredibly enjoyable. The Clippers, however, are struggling to keep their head above water, as they struggle to survive without Paul George and their two big men in Ivica Zubas and Isaiah Hartenstein who are all out again tonight. Things get trickier when looking at the Grizzlies injury list, one that includes Morant, Desmond Bane, Kyle Anderson, and Steven Adams - however, Memphis has remained competitive without their primary core before, and with their current momentum, we hope they can do it again tonight.

Let's turn our attention towards the Phoenix Suns, who have a difficult task in trying to overcome the Miami Heat tonight. Miami is one of those teams that irrespective of their roster struggles, always come to play, and are a contender on any given night. Yet, the Heat are going to be without Bam Adebayo and possibly Jimmy Butler along with 10 rotation players - sure, they have Kyle Lowry and Tyler Herro to lean on, but against the Suns, that probably isn't enough to get the job done. Deandre Ayton's return to the rotation will be an enormous boost to Phoenix, who have been without a trusted big man for the last 10 days, now with Ayton back the Suns starting 5 will all be available for tonight's contest. Regardless of how well-oiled the Heat are, this game will likely be a step too far for them, and I can't see them getting a notable result from this game.

We'll end this parlay with the Utah Jazz - another impressive West Coast Titan, who take on the Indiana Pacers this evening. The Pacers are sweating on Malcolm Brogdon's fitness, as they will need the reliable guard on the floor if they want any chance of overcoming Utah's stern defensive presence. Indiana is already without Caris LeVert, TJ McConnel, and TJ Warren for this contest, adding Brogdon to that list would be a serious hammer blow to their chances. Utah hasn't submitted their injury report at the time of writing, but judging by their lineup in the loss to the Toronto Raptors, are dealing with a bit of an injury crisis. Indiana isn't the Raptors, and we shouldn't use the Jazz' loss as a basis for predicting tonight's game. I will understand if you favor the Pacers tonight, but I see the Jazz as a team who play based on a set of principals, rather than requiring their coach to draw up set plays - this usually indicates a team won't change their style of play based on injuries - and it's that style of play that leads me to back the Jazz for tonight's game.

In a rematch from their Thursday night game, the Boston Celtics face the New York Knicks, with Boston hungry for revenge. With the Knicks' win from earlier in the week, they take the season series 2-1 heading into tonight's game. Boston, until mid-way through the third quarter, were leading their last game by a healthy margin, before their usual mid-game collapse took a chunk out of their butts.

The Celtics, for the most part, have been a vengeful roster this year, and usually set out to win their next game against a team that defeated them earlier in the year - case in point, Knicks won opening night, Celtics won their follow match-up, also see Chicago Bulls, Toronto Raptors, etc. From a health standpoint, neither team will be missing any new names, meaning we're in for a repeat rotation from both sides. Jaylen Brown is an exceptional scorer of the ball and has grown as a rebounder throughout the season, I'm expecting him to score 23 or more points tonight, and to pull down 6 or more rebounds. This is the same Brown who didn't touch the rocket for the last 8 minutes of Boston's loss to New York earlier in the week, and Ime Udoka will need to rectify that if he wants his team to win today.

From New York's side of things, they will want to shore up a defense that crumbled whenever the Celtics hit the paint during the first 2.5 quarters of their last meeting and will feel confident of a repeat victory if they can limit Boston's interior game. It's going to be a close-fought contest, and I understand if you side with the Knicks, but something tells me the Celtics will be out for blood tonight, and that usually doesn't bode well for the opposing team.

Charlotte Hornets vs. Milwaukee Bucks Same Game Parlay

  • Charlotte Hornets Money Line
  • Over 229.5 Points

Odds: +197 (Bet $100 to win $197)

Hornets vs Bucks Odds

I'm not sure why the Charlotte Hornets are slightly favored to win tonight, and with the Milwaukee Bucks yet to release their injury report, it will remain a mystery to me. But, the odds-makers probably have a good reason for this, and in light of not having the requisite information, I'm going to take their lead on this one. Shockingly, this is the same Bucks team who defeated the Brooklyn Nets last night and have been surging up the conference standings in recent weeks, while the Hornets, while entertaining, have been far from relevant since the start of December.

However, this is what a COVID hit season looks like - rapid changes to a team's fortunes, with little understanding of how we got here. But, let me leave you with this - the Hornets are a team that boasts a top-3 offense and has multiple ball-handlers that can carve a defense open, their issues come on the defensive end, with the team sitting 28th in defensive rating. So, we can look at this one of two ways, either the Bucks defense is going to be missing some core players, or their offensive weapons will be sitting this one out because when both teams are at full strength, this matchup isn't even close. We're backing the Hornets based on the odds, but if Giannis Antetokounmpo is cleared to play tonight, I advise you run with the Bucks!
