Memphis Grizzlies vs. Minnesota Timberwolves Prediction

At some point, Vegas is going to start taking the Grizzlies seriously. But that day is apparently not today.

The Grizzlies, in case you’ve missed it, are the hottest team in the NBA. They’ve won 10 games in a row, have passed the Utah Jazz for third place in the West, and are within shouting distance of the Bulls for the third-best record in basketball. Over the last two months – a span of 30 games – they have the most wins and the best net rating in the NBA. And of course, leading the charge, they have a budding third-year superstar who has not only cemented his status as a 2022 All-Star but is slowly but surely nudging his way into the MVP conversation.

Ja Morant now continues his act against the talented but inconsistent Minnesota Timberwolves. The Wolves have been one of the NBA’s more frustrating teams to figure out, with the occasional big win (see: their 30-point demolition of the Thunder last week) mixed in with lots of bad losses (losing to a Mavs team missing every normal starter back in late December).

The key for this game is Minnesota’s lack of true quality wins. Their last great win, arguably, was against the Sixers in Philly in Joel Embiid’s return to action after missing time due to an injury. Other than that, they have occasional wins against other teams like them – solid but inconsistent – but none against a team the caliber of Memphis.

The Grizzlies, it should be noted, will be missing Dillon Brooks and likely Steven Adams as well for this one, but that was the case in their Tuesday victory over the Warriors. Don’t let it detract you from an easy bet here. Give the points at home.

Brooklyn Nets vs. Oklahoma City Thunder Prediction

Yesterday, I spent many words emphasizing the fool’s gold that is the 2021-22 Brooklyn Nets, noting how they were the worst team in the league against the spread this season, and how until further notice, they should not be counted on to come up big against any team, let alone a good one.

We may have gotten that notice last night. Brooklyn went into Chicago and dismantled the first-place Bulls, 138-112. It was the sort of intentional performance that was meant to remind everyone: “Yes, we’re still the best, even if we haven’t shown it.”

Will it last? There’s no way to know for sure, if only because the Nets know full well that the rest of their regular season is somewhat meaningless. Given the Kyrie Irving vaccination situation and his current inability to play home games, dropping to a lesser seed and having to play a Game 5 or 7 on the road might not be the worst thing.

All that being said, if ever there were a time to take advantage of small spreads for a team that might just be ready to start taking things a bit more seriously, it is now. Just such an opportunity exists tonight when the Nets welcome the feisty Thunder. OKC has been outpacing betters’ expectations all season long, with a 65 percent cover rate that is the third-best in the NBA. They have also lost five straight and don’t have the horses to hang with the Nets if both Kevin Durant and James Harden are in uniform, which they should be tonight.

The NBA’s worst team against the spread has nowhere to go but up. Get on board now before the lines revert back to where they should be.
