Chris Paul has been incredible this year at getting his teammates involved. He’s averaging 10.2 assists per game which is the best mark of anyone in the NBA. More importantly, he’s currently even outdoing his regular self with 52 assists in his last 4 games which is good for averaging 13 per night in this short span. Among those four games, the last one was against this same Utah defense. Just two nights ago this man put up 13 assists on 28 assist opportunities. If CP3 gets that many opportunities again I would hope his teammates could make 10/28 chances which is only 35%.

If you were to just look up Utah's defense versus allowing assists it wouldn't tell the full story. They’re a completely different defensive identity with and without Gobert manning the paint. Typically you avoid assists overs against Utah like the plague but they’ve been much more prone without Gobert and not just in the last matchup against Paul. In all 6 games versus Utah without Gobert, we have seen the primary ball-handler exceed their average in assists by 3 or more. Does that mean that CP3 is now a lock for 13 again? I wouldn’t say that but I definitely see value in 9.5 and think he’s good for double-digit dishes tonight.
Tonight's game with all of the injuries both teams are dealing with kind of evened out and led to a -1.5 spread. This is great news as I expect CP3 to play big minutes and hopefully see some fourth-quarter run in a close game. With these high assist props, it’s detrimental if a blowout occurs. The spread is very encouraging, the fact he did this two nights ago with ease is encouraging and Utah's lack of defense without Gobert makes it go over the top for me. It is a bit juiced at -130 but worth paying for most definitely!
