NBA Parlay Breakdown

Our first game of the day sees the Sacramento Kings face off against the Philadelphia 76ers, in a contest the Sixers should be winning easily. The Kings have lost their last 5 games, and show no sign of turning things around, and we shouldn't expect them to start tonight, although De'Aaron Fox potentially being available (currently listed as questionable) would be a good start. The Sixers, on the other hand, have been swatting teams aside in recent weeks, despite their limited perimeter defense due to injury. For the month of January, Philadelphia has an 11-3 record, while boasting the 8th ranked net rating in the NBA. I can't envision the Kings winning tonight, their defense has been horrific recently and their offense hasn't fared much better. Due to my current thoughts on Sacramento's recent form, and poor adherence to their coach's system, I've opted to give them a +11.5-point head start and against the Sixers team, they're going to need it.

In our second game, things look far more even. When healthy, the Toronto Raptors have been a solid team with a good blend of veteran leadership and youthful energy. While the Miami Heat continues to be one of the better franchises in the entire league. The Raptors will have a slight advantage in this game due to the Heat being on the second night of a back-to-back but will need to be at their best if they wish to capitalize on the opportunity. The Heat haven't released their injury report at the time of writing, but it's safe to assume that Kyle Lowry will continue to be out for them, giving Fred VanVleet an opportunity to punish Miami's point-of-attack defenders. Unfortunately, despite the impressive talent on the Raptors roster, Miami is deep and despite their current injury plight has gone 10-4 throughout the month of January. I do like the Raptors, especially with how Nick Nurse sets his team up to play, but the Heat currently sit 1st in the Eastern Conference standings and have achieved that despite missing one or more of their stars for most of the season. As such, I'm backing Miami to get the job done, but will be hedging my bets by giving the Raptors a +8.5-point head start for tonight's contest.

Finally, we have a clash worth waiting for, as the Golden State Warriors face off against a struggling Brooklyn Nets team. As the game is in San Francisco we can expect to see Kyrie Irving suit up for the Nets alongside James Harden, but Kevin Durant remains out along with Joe Harris, in what could be hammer blows for Brooklyn's chances of victory tonight. The Warriors, on the other hand, are still without Draymond Green, Andre Iguodala, and Nemanja Bjelica. Shockingly, the Warriors still command the top spot in the NBA's net rating and have held that slot since the start of the season, while the Nets are 10 places below then in 11th. I like the Warriors for this game - Brooklyn has been inconsistent all season, and has some internal turmoil brewing between Harden and Irving, while their constant roster fluctuations are clearly hurting the team's unity. I'm rolling with a Warriors win tonight, especially since Steph Curry seems to have broken out of a mini-shooting funk in recent days. Perhaps I would feel different if Durant was participating in tonight's game, but that's another story, anyway, I'm rolling with the Nets on a +9-point spread, which should give us enough rope to stay on target for completing this parlay.

New Orleans Pelicans vs. Boston Celtics Same-Game Parlay

  • Pelicans +11

  • Odds: +184

I knew the Celtics could burn us last night, and despite us giving them a reasonable head start, they found a way to do so. And now, on the second night of a back-to-back, we're asking them to be kinder to our parlay. Luckily, they face the New Orleans Pelicans, who are one of the worst teams in the NBA at present - on both sides of the floor. However, since the start of January, New Orleans has been slightly better, winning 5 of their games this month, but we can never expect them to be victorious, instead, their winning is simply a surprising turn of events. So, in a game where both teams are relatively healthy, we have to back the roster with the better talent and deeper bench, which in this case is Boston.

Sure, you never know what version of the Celtics you're going to get, and Ime Udoka's love of poor-shooting lineups has you scratching your head for stretches of the game, but against an opponent that currently sits 23rd in defensive rating and 25th in offensive rating, you can be forgiven for expecting the Celtics to take care of business. Furthermore, Boston has developed a unique skill of holding their opponents to 100 points or less, not always, but a lot of the time - which is why I think there's great value in expecting this game to remain under 212 total points tonight. Of course, we can't give the Celtics too much credit, which is why we're giving the Pelicans a fighting chance with a +11-point spread, and hopefully, we can take this single-game parlay straight to the bank on Monday morning.

Memphis Grizzlies vs. Washington Wizards Same-Game Parlay

  • Grizzlies Moneyline
  • Under 228.5 Points
  • Odds: +182

Looking at this parlay, you can see how strongly I favor the Memphis Grizzlies in tonight's game, which is why I have opted for the money line rather than our usual spread bet approach. Simply put, the Washington Wizards are a good team, but it's clear their roster has some issues on the defensive end, and I expect the Memphis Grizzlies to take full advantage in their game tonight. Memphis have played 14 games so far this month, and won 11 of them, while the Wizards are 5-8 in the same time span. It's not that I think the Wizards are bad, it's that I think the Grizzlies are that good! Neither roster projects to have any serious injury absences, although Memphis hasn't released their injury report at the time of writing. As such, operating under the assumption that both teams have their full primary rotations available, I'm leaning heavily on Ja Morant and Jaren Jackson Jr to get the job done - especially since Bradley Beal hasn't looked himself all season. However, if you would prefer to cover the spread, I would advise taking the Wizards at a +8.5 as that feels like the type of margin they will be facing once the final whistle blows.
