NBA Parlay Breakdown
The Cleveland Cavaliers have the difficult task of finding some offensive production in the absence of Darius Garland, who is out for tonight's game against the Charlotte Hornets, along with Lauri Markkanen, Ricky Rubio, and Collin Sexton. However, Evan Mobley and Jarrett Allen are fit to play in tonight's game, so we can be sure the Cavaliers' defense will remain at an elite level. The Hornets, on the other hand, will enter tonight's game with the same rotation they faced the Boston Celtics with earlier this week - meaning we can expect a night of high-paced offense centered around LaMelo Ball and Miles Bridges. Without their rising star guard, the Cavaliers will be ultra-reliant on their defensive efficiency tonight, which currently sits third in the NBA. And the Hornets, who are a poor defensive team, will be hoping their 5th ranked offense can rise to the challenge and get them back in the win column. Usually, I favor the better defensive team, but Charlotte has great length and athleticism on that end of the floor, they just haven't figured out how to execute yet. Still, without Garland, the Cavaliers will struggle to create any reliable offense, nor will they be able to build momentum in transition, which has led me to favor the Hornets for tonight's game. As such, we're taking the Cavaliers on a +8 spread.
Our next game sees the Atlanta Hawks face off against the Toronto Raptors. Vegas has Toronto as slight favorites for this contest, but with neither team submitting their injury reports at the time of writing it's difficult to drill too deep into why. Anyway, the Hawks are similar to the Charlotte Hornets in that they have an elite offense (currently second in the NBA) but a porous defense (27th in the NBA) while the Raptors are a stable team, ranking 14th in offense and 15th in defense. I always like teams that have similar ratings on both ends of the floor, it speaks to a balanced roster and means there are very few flaws to exploit. Sure, it's great being in the top-5 for one of the two categories, but if you're towards the bottom of the pack in the other, you're not really on course to achieve much in the postseason. So, while the Hawks have the deeper roster, and arguably the best player in Trae Young, the Raptors are the sterner opponent, which is why I'm siding with the Vegas oddsmakers and backing the Raptors to come away from tonight's game with the victory. A +7-point head start for the Hawks feels like a fair gamble, and I'll be watching the game intently to see how it all shakes out.
Finally, we have the New Orleans Pelicans against the Denver Nuggets. One team has failed to build upon their progress from last season, and the other has been hindered by injuries to some of their best players. Of course, you could make the argument that the Pelicans would be in far better shape had Zion Williamson made his return from injury when he was originally supposed to, but that just speaks to the Pelicans' over-reliance on one player. The Nuggets, on the other hand, have remained competitive in spite of their current injury struggles, and boast a 28-23 record - good for 6th in the Western Conference. I can't look past the Nuggets for tonight's game, especially since the Pelicans could be without their best perimeter defender in Josh Hart, so a 9-point head start is both reasonable and logical to round out today's parlays.

The Boston Celtics have been racking up wins in recent weeks, and are finally showing the form their roster is truly capable of. Now, facing the Detroit Pistons, we can be confident the Celtics continue their current run of good form against one of the weaker teams in the league. If you want further context to the Celtics' current hot streak, since the turn of the year, they're 1st in defensive rating and 2nd in net rating - a far cry from their early-season struggles. The Pistons, however, continue to struggle for prominence, sitting 26th in defense, 28th in offense, and 29th in net rating since the start of January. Neither team has any new injuries to report, so we can expect similar rotations to what we've seen throughout the last few weeks, and for Boston, that bodes extremely well. I can't see the Pistons snagging a result in this one, no matter which angle I try and take, which is why I've been liberal in backing them on an 11-point spread - because that's the only way I can see us leveling the playing field to generate some fair value.

You never know what version of the Brooklyn Nets you're going to get, one moment they're an offensive juggernaut, the next they're a defensive wall, and on occasion, they go through stretches of being ineffective and lackluster. Tonight' against the Utah Jazz, the Nets will have Kyrie Irving in the rotation, which should help ease the pressure on a disgruntled James Harden, but Kevin Durant will continue to watch from the sidelines due to an MCL sprain. The Jazz are also without one of their star players, as Rudy Gobert remains unavailable due to a right calf strain, but in a boost for the Western Conference team, Donovan Mitchell is back in the fold. However, without Gobert anchoring their defense, the Jazz will struggle to contain Irving and co. which is why I tend to lean towards Brooklyn winning this game. With both teams missing stars, the statistics won't help us much, but Utah's best chance of getting a result tonight is to take care of the ball (one of their weaker skills). While I like Brooklyn for this game, Vegas has the Jazz as favorites, and who am I to argue? So, we're backing the Nets on a +9 spread, and expecting a solid showing from a fit and fresh Kyrie Irving.
