NBA Player Prop Pick for Monday: Fred VanVleet With the Dimes
Today is the first day of one of my favorite weeks of the year, Degen Week. It's basically like a cheat week, but for gamblers. If you've ever been on a diet, you know what I mean. You can do whatever you want and it doesn't count. Also, it's important to note that I'm not talking about a "cheat meal", but a cheat week. Two drastically different things. This week is going to end up with us betting on a coin toss, what color Gatorade a guy is going to be showered with and how long the national anthem will take to sing. Why not just stretch this thing out for longer than a day? It makes perfect sense if you don't really think about it too long. The best way to kick off Degen Week is to start with the first NBA game on the docket. We need to jump right into the pool here, no walking down the steps. I'd say we do a cannonball.

Fred VanVleet Over 7.5 Assists @ -110 (Bet $110 to win $100)
Odds available at FanDuel at time of publishing
I'd say you have to play this at FanDuel. Both DraftKings and BetMGM are offering 7.5 at -140 which should be illegal. Just bump it up to 8.5 at +115 like Barstool did. If I was in charge, that's what I would do. Also, the 8.5 at +115 is not a bad idea.
Let me give you a sneak peek into my brain for a second here. My first idea was to just take his double-double for +225 at DraftKings. It's Degen Week after all. But then I saw FanDuel has his 10+ assists for +235 so if you're looking for some heavy hitter stuff, do that. Point is, I think it could be an assist fest for VanVleet tonight.
First off, the Raptors are playing the Charlotte Hornets tonight. We're talking pace up spot against a bad defense (in terms of efficiency). That's one of the best combos you can get in this game we play. Lucky us.
The environment is right but more importantly, VanVleet's form is on point too. Over his last eight games, VanVleet has gone over this number in seven of them. The time he didn't was when the Raptors played the Heat and he only ended up with six. Totally not his fault since the Heat actually play defense. Could have happened to any of us.
This game tonight should be nothing like the Heat game. (Keep in mind Fred still dropped eight dimes on the Heat once in that eight-game run I was talking about.) The Hornets are a team that gets worked by the pass. Over their last three games, only one team in the NBA has seen more of their opponents' field goals come via the assist. We're talking 72.4% here people. What is happening?
On top of all that, the Raptors' coach, Nick Nurse, plays his starters like they don't have backups. Over his last 12 games, VanVleet has played at least 40 minutes eight times. In that span he hasn't played less than 38 minutes even once. Basic assist math tells us you can't get assists if you're not on the floor. That shouldn't be a problem tonight. Let's go!
