NBA Parlay Breakdown

Without Domantas Sabonis in their lineup, the Indiana Pacers are going to struggle with the Cleveland Cavaliers on size, both defensively and offensively. Unfortunately, the Pacers' job is made harder by their litany of injuries. Heading into today, Indiana will be without Torrey Craig, TJ McConnell, Ricky Rubio, Myles Turner, and TJ Warren, while Malcolm Brogdon and Isaiah Jackson are both questionable to start the day. So, how do the Pacers combat the Cavaliers' size? After all, they don't have Sabonis anymore, and Turner isn't participating in tonight's game. The Cavaliers, however, have no new injuries to report, and in a cruel twist, Caris LeVert will make a quick return to the team who traded him last week, and we know how that usually goes. I can't see the Pacers hanging with the Cavaliers, especially with their roster as threadbare as it currently looks, which is why a +11.5-point spread seems logical, but even that may be too low of a point differential.

The San Antonio Spurs made numerous moves before the trade deadline, adding some solid depth, but losing Derrick White in the process. It's not clear if any of the Spurs' new recruits will participate in tonight's game, but there's certainly a chance. However, the Atlanta Hawks won't take pity on their opponents if they're a little shy on numbers and will take full advantage of any lapse in defensive concentration. After all, the Hawks are one of the best offensive teams in the NBA, and slowing them down is easier said than done. Furthermore, the Spurs were in poor form before their flurry of trades and now, with a lack of cohesion, we can expect that to continue for a little while longer. Overall, Atlanta is the better team with an elite skill set, and with all of their roster healthy, they will have no excuses for not defeating the Spurs tonight, which is I've given San Antonio a liberal +12-point head start.

The final game of this parlay is between the Orlando Magic and Utah Jazz, and yes, we're expecting the Jazz to win by a landslide. Remember, this is the same Utah team that defeated the Golden State Warriors earlier in the week, and a team that has won 34 games so far this season while also earning the 1st ranked offense in the NBA and the 10th ranked defense - they're a beat of a team. According to today's injury report, Rudy Gobert has been upgraded to questionable to start the day, but in truth, the Jazz won't need him to win this contest. The Magic have only won 13 games this season, ranked 28th in offense and 24th in defense, and are aiming for a high draft pick at the end of the season, so I would be shocked if this game ended remotely close. In terms of injuries, the Magic will be sweating on Jalen Suggs who is listed as questionable but should have the rest of their roster healthy and ready to go. I'm running with a Utah win tonight, probably by a big margin, which is why a +14-point spread is a necessity, but you could find similar value by taking Utah on the money line, which is also far less risky.

Boston Celtics vs. Denver Nuggets Same-Game Parlay

The Boston Celtics are chasing their seventh win in a row but will be in a weird spot due to having so few players on their roster after yesterday's trades. Derrick White is unlikely to feature tonight, but I thought the same about Domantas Sabonis in Sacramento earlier in the week, so hey, there's a chance we see him suit up in green. For the Denver Nuggets, they will like their chances coming into this game, simply due to the level of upheaval, the Celtics roster has had to deal with in the last 48 hours. Yet, Boston is quickly becoming a respected defensive team, and teams continue to struggle when trying to break them down, so it will be interesting to see how Nikola Jokic approaches this contest. Another worry for Boston is their lack of shooting, especially off the bench. Josh Richardson was one of the Celtics' best bench players, and with him now heading to San Antonio, and Dennis Schroder has also gone, the Celtics starters will need to come correct while the team rebuilds its bench rotation.

However, over the last 14 days, Boston has ranked 1st in defensive rating and 2nd in point differential, while the Nuggets have been allowing 116.3 points per game on average, so there are definitely ways the Celtics can exploit a hobbled Denver rotation. Overall, I think the Nuggets are a tough opponent for Boston but expect Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown to be too much for the Nuggets to handle, and ultimately see the Celtics coming out of this contest with their 7th straight W.

I've enjoyed taking a long shot over the last couple of days, so thought I'd do it again for tonight's game between the Minnesota Timberwolves and Chicago Bulls. Neither team has any new injuries to be concerned about, but the Bulls will be hoping Nikola Vucevic, who is listed as probable for tonight, is able to participate. From a form standpoint, the Timberwolves have a slight edge after winning 5 of their last 7 games, while the Bulls have gone 4-and-4 in the same 14 day period. Of course, Chicago's injury issues have some bearing on their current mediocrity, but that won't stop the Timberwolves and Karl Anthony-Towns from coming into tonight's contest full of confidence. However, while Minnesota is certainly an improved team from last year, I'm unsure how they will deal with Chicago's relentless offense and pesky defense, which is why I'm slightly favoring the Bulls to win tonight. I'm expecting a big scoring night from DeMar DeRozan, who should have no problem feasting in the mid-range, and also a Zach Lavine performance, possibly on the glass as he looks to attack in transition. If you want something a little safer, taking the Timberwolves on a +7 seems reasonable, especially since this game might come down to the wire.
