ANALYSIS

NBA Player Prop Picks for Friday: Calling on Al Horford

It's Friday night people. So obviously we're gambling. The Super Bowl is Sunday so if we had even half a brain we would try to have as much action as possible all weekend simply out of respect. Can't be all about that action if you don't have action. That's just not how action works. Luckily for tonight, we've got NBA as far as the eye can see. There isn't a single reason on the planet we should be sitting out. In a situation such as this, most smart people would find a way to bet one of the games on national television. With that in mind, I'm already down on the Denver Nuggets vs Boston Celtics game at 7:30pm ET on NBA TV. This feels like the start to a great day.

Al Horford 20.5 PRA (+100) (Bet $100 to Win $100)

*Odds Available at FanDuel at Time of Publishing*

The only place I see this right now is FanDuel so that's where we're going. The others should catch up at some point. Who knows why we're not getting Celtics numbers everywhere but it doesn't really matter. FanDuel has them so that's good enough for me.

I'll warn you now, this is going to be a battle. A fight. There are going to be multiple times in this one where you wonder what you were thinking for betting on Al Horford. Don't worry, that's normal. It's all part of the plan.

With all the moves the Celtics made yesterday, I think Horford will play 30+ minutes if the game stays close enough which I think it will. Let's say new acquisitions, Derrick White and Daniel Thies, don't suit up. That would mean the Celtics don't have many rotation pieces to go around. They lost Dennis Schroder, Josh Richardson, Bruno Fernando, Enes Freedom and Romeo Langford yesterday. Someone has to play for Boston tonight.

Obviously Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown will hog the ball and shoot a ton. That's just Celtics' basketball. But over the last five games, Horford has actually looked like a member of the team on offense. He's taken at least seven shots in four of the games and the time he didn't hit that number, he only played 19 minutes because Boston waxed Detroit. I highly doubt that happens tonight given the situation. Point is, he should contribute with points which is how these PRAs get home.

Points aren't the only way though as Big Al should chip in with rebounds and assists. The guy has pulled down at least nine rebounds in four of his last five games. He looks like Dennis Rodman out there at times. He could easily pull down 10+ against the Nuggets who allowed the sixth most rebounds to power forwards this season.

In terms of assists, he's seen an average of eight potentials in each of his last two games. Obviously this is a tricky market for a guy like Horford but technically he only needs four to hit his floor on these. He has upside and could see it since 60+% of field goals scored against the Nuggets are assisted. This one will be a battle but it's one the good guys (us) should win.
