I know you’re rolling your eyes, I can’t blame you. Who on earth wants to watch a game with no defense and have an under in it? Allow me to explain. Games like the All-Star Game are dominated by flashy dunks and deep threes. Players like Jokic don’t typically shine in this format and if he does it will likely be for his nifty passes more than his ability to show an ounce of athleticism. Jokic has played in 3 previous All-Star Games and has scored 6, 5, and 6 points. Jokic would have to more than double his All-Star Game record in points.
Besides that, this game is being played in Cleveland. Do you know who the backup is for Jokic on Sunday? A motivated Jarrett Allen in front of his home crowd. Monty Williams is a known good guy and I believe he will allow Allen to have extended run and finish big-time alley-oops to get the home crowd behind Team Lebron. Allen definitely felt snubbed not initially making the team so I expect big things from him when his number is called.
I also could see Giannis running some small-ball 5, there are just so many mouths to feed it’s hard to take any over for me in the All-Star Game. Any of these players could go bananas but with so many big egos and guys who want their shine, it’s unlikely that Jokic should see the shot attempts needed to score 13 or more. I think this is a sneaky nice find and I’ll live with the results if it doesn’t go our way.
