Thursday's NBA Player Prop Pick From Beyond the Arc: Zach LaVine is Going to Come out Firing

The first half of the season is officially cover, and with the NBA All-Star game behind us, we have basketball again! We start the second half of the season off in the Bulls vs. Hawks game. With a spread of Bulls -3.5 and a total of 234.5, I think we can expect this game to be very good for player props.

Zach Lavine over 2.5 3PM @ -130 (Bet $130 to win $100)

If there was one person that probably wished the All-Star break didn't exist, it was DeMar DeRozan. Not only was his stretch record breaking, but he led the Bulls to 5 straight wins before the break. While LaVine was out, everyone really did get to see DeRozan shine, but now I think we are actually getting some value on LaVine due to him being out of sight and out of mind.

Despite missing some time recently, LaVine is having himself a very nice season. He’s averaging 24.6 points and shooting 40% from 3 on 7.2 attempts per game. At one time, this line of 2.5 was either juiced to -175 or tended to even open up at 3.5, Zach LaVine finally got some time to get healthy and looked perfectly fine in the All-Star game. I think he's gonna come back and get right back to business.

One of the other things we have going here is the matchup against the Hawks. The Hawks currently give up the 5th most 3PM to shooting guards and the 2nd most points. This has been a clear weakness on defense all year, and Lavine took advantage when they played earlier this year. In their two matchups this season, LaVine went 5-9 and 5-8 from beyond the arc, scoring 25 and 30 points in those games. I think LaVine ends up with the best matchup here, and he will continue to take advantage of teams with bad SG defense. Let's take a look at how Lavine has done vs other soft 3-point defenses.

  • vs. Miami:  7-11, 4-10
  • vs. Portland: 3-9, 7-12
  • vs. Charlotte: 5-11, 2-7
  • vs. Toronto: 3-7, 1-5, 2-4
