NBA Parlay Breakdown
The Toronto Raptors decimated the Brooklyn Nets last night, and are now tasked with repeating that performance in an instant revenge game - grab your popcorn! The Nets aren't the team we hoped they would be at this juncture of the season, but that's due to injuries and James Harden skipping town, so, we can't place too much blame at their door. But entering tonight's game, we can expect to see the same team and same rotations - so how can we expect different results? To be fair, neither team has released their injury report at the time of writing, but unless something is drastically different, which outside of Kyrie Irving being cleared to play (potentially) there shouldn't be, the Raptors are the favorites heading into the day. And due to the beatdown they just put on Brooklyn, we have to back Toronto to win tonight's game, which is why, when you factor in the Nets' current trajectory, the money line was so enticing.
The Minnesota Timberwolves take on the Golden State Warriors for the fourth time tonight, with the Warriors currently ahead in the series 2-1. Things aren't going to plan for the Warriors right now, as they keep dropping winnable games, and are currently averaging a loss in every second contest. If the law of averages holds up, tonight should go in Golden States' favor after they fell to the Dallas Mavericks over the weekend, but judging by Stephen Curry's current slump, and a lack of leadership off the bench, we can't hold our breath. The Timberwolves, on the other hand, have been mightly impressive and have surpassed their "also-ran" status bestowed upon them during the pre-season. Anthony Edward and Karl Anthony-Towns have both taken steps forward in their development, and Minnesota finds itself in a genuine battle for playoff contention. In terms of injuries, the Timberwolves haven't released an update yet, but the Warriors are without Draymond Green, Andre Iguodala, Klay Thompson, James Wiseman, and potentially Nemanja Bjelica - no wonder they're currently lacking in veteran leadership. Personally, I'm expecting the Timberwolves to even the season series up at 2-2 tonight because at present you can't bank on Curry shouldering a high offensive load. A +6.5 spread gives the Timberwolves ample room come rain or shine as I can't see this game being decided by a wide margin.
Finally, we have another rematch on our hands, this time between the Los Angeles Clippers and Houston Rockets. As I said over the weekend, Terance Mann and Jalen Green are both vastly improved this season, which has given their respective teams a significant boost. However, the Clippers, who remain without Norman Powell, Kawhi Leonard, and Paul George, have a deep array of talent to choose from and should be more than a match for a Rockets team with their eyes firmly on the future. The last contest between these two teams over the weekend ended in a close victory for the Clippers, and while I expect the same outcome tonight, I'm prepared for a slightly larger margin - after all, Ty Lue is a respected tactician and will have made adjustments in preparation for this contest. I'm backing the Rockets to lose by no more than 9 points, and feel this is both fair and logical given the current rosters available to each team and how their recent meetings have played out.

The Boston Celtics start a grueling week of games with a tough contest against the Atlanta Hawks - a team that has given Ime Udoka's team difficulties this season. Where Boston excels on defense, the Hawks excel on offense - where Robert Williams is a dominant rim-runner, Clint Capela is arguably the best at that role in the NBA. Matchups make games, and no two teams match up quite as well as the Hawks and Celtics. Yet, unlike the Hawks, Boston knows that if it's not their shooting night, they can still fall back on an elite game-plan which will help see them rough the rough times. And that's where the difference between these two rosters becomes prominent - sure Jayson Tatum has grown as a playmaker and should easily surpass our player props in this game -but if his shots aren't falling, the Celtics are still the second-best defense in the NBA.
What can the Hawks do if they have an off-night offensively? Without Lou Williams and John Collins, Atlanta is down two scorers and will have less command of the glass - a battle that usually turns the tide for or against the Celtics. Boston's injury struggles seem to be over as the team boasts a clean bill of health heading into tonight's game. I think Boston will be looking to avenge their loss against the Indiana Pacers tonight and will come out with their A-Game, as a result, giving the Hawks a +10 spread makes sense and gives us plenty of options for a successful parlay.

The Los Angeles Lakers continue to make headlines for all the wrong reasons, and as the dysfunction continues to turn into apathy, we can expect the Dallas Mavericks to take full advantage. We've seen videos of the Lakers roster arguing with fans in the arena, we've seen the Lakers consistently collapse in tight games, and we've seen the team's star players go head-to-head with the coaching staff and front office - there's rarely a more compelling story than a Lakers team mired in dysfunction. Tonight, Luka Doncic and co. will head into tonight's game feeling full of confidence and expecting to walk away from the contest with a victory. Of course, it's never smart to write off LeBron James, he's taught us as much on multiple occasions. But this feels different, this feels like the Lakers are destined for multiple divorces in the coming months, and will continue to stutter until that time comes.
In terms of injuries, Los Angeles continues to miss a string of rotation players, but Anthony Davis' absence is what's going to hit hardest, while the Mavericks will miss Trey Burke and Tim Hardaway Jr. For our player props, I have tried to be conservative - Doncic should get close to the points and rebounds talley noted, but Frank Vogel's commitment to a defensive scheme might limit Doncic from surpassing 31 points and 10 rebounds, and that's what we're banking on. Overall, this Western Conference battle will be a fun game with multiple narratives operating as undertones, but I can't look past the Mavericks winning tonight, even if the Lakers have been wildly underperforming and are due a statement win.
