Washington Wizards vs Portland Trail Blazers Prediction: The Brandon Williams Show

1.5u - Brandon Williams o14.5 PTS @-125 (Bet $125 to win $100)

Brandon Williams has been so interesting to follow as he’s entered Portland's starting lineup. We have seen him dominate with 27 points but also shoot inefficiently and only end with 9. Tonight just feels like a night that he gets back on track. His last game where he struggled was against a pesky Jazz defense, tonight should be much easier against Washington on a back to back. Since filling in for Anfernee Simons, we have seen Williams turn into the top scoring option for Portland so getting 14.5 still feels cheap.

Washington has had a weird tendency to allow the opposing top-scoring options to have great games, regardless of position. I will list this month's stats so you can understand what I mean.

  • 3/11: Lebron James 50 PTS
  • 3/9: Reggie Jackson 31 PTS
  • 3/6: Malcolm Brogdon: 27 PTS
  • 3/4: Trae Young 25 PTS
  • 3/1: Jerami Grant 26 PTS

Of course, I wouldn’t say Brandon Williams is on any of these guys' levels, talent wise, but he should see similar usage as them. If they can all score 25+ with that type of usage I think Williams should be able to score 15+.

This game projects to be closer than you’d think because Kristaps is resting. I'm expecting 30+ minutes for Brandon, and if that’s the case I really like our odds here. I think he has sneaky upside for 20+ yet again, so I’m happily playing this at 1.5 units. This seems like the perfect get-right spot after Utah massacred Portland in their last matchup. I would play this up to 15.5 for 1u but not much further to be safe. He has averaged 15 FGA per game over his last three so volume shouldn’t be an issue tonight, just a matter of will he make them. I like our chances.
