Handicapper Matt McCuen is here with his top NBA bet for Sunday night. He has his eyes set on the Lakers as they are set to take on the Phoenix Suns tonight on ESPN.

Phoenix Suns vs. Los Angeles Lakers Prediction: Don't Expect the Lakers to Light It Up

Our NBA bets have been on fire the last two weeks, our best run ever, and that will continue tonight. We had another easy winner last night on the Chicago Bulls, and I found one play I love for us tonight. I will be looking at a battle between the Los Angeles Lakers and the Phoenix Suns.

Phoenix Suns vs. Los Angeles Lakers Prediction

These two teams have had complete opposite seasons, and both came into the season with very high expectations. Pre-season, the Lakers and the Suns were two of the favorites to win the Western Conference, but now the Lakers are in a fight just to make the playoffs. The Suns have been great this season and have met expectations so far after winning the West a season ago. The Suns actually took a 2-0 lead in the NBA finals over the Bucks, but the Bucks stormed back to win the series 4-2. The Sun's chemistry may be their best attribute. They have two stars in future Hall of Famer Chris Paul and shooting guard Devin Booker. Booker has put up huge numbers this season in the scoring department, while Paul has been one of the best assist players in the NBA. The Suns are currently without Chris Paul, and they have still been playing really good basketball. Mikal Bridges has really stepped up, along with big man DeAndre Ayton. Ayton has really blossomed this season in the paint and on the defensive end. I expect Ayton to have his way tonight against this smaller Lakers team.

The play I am turning to here will be a team total play on the Lakers. I am taking their team total under in this spot tonight for a few reasons. The first reason is this Laker's offense has struggled all season long to score points. The second reason is this is a hard-nosed, scrappy Phoenix Suns defense who will make every possession tough for the Lakers. LeBron James and Malik Monk are both questionable tonight, which would obviously be a big blow to this Lakers offense. I do feel as if Lebron will go, but the possible absence of Monk could hurt the Lakers as he may be the team's best pure shooter.

The Lakers are currently averaging 111.1 points per game overall but 109 on the road. The Suns allow just 106 points per game and rank sixth in the NBA in scoring defense. The Lakers have no size at the moment, so I do not see them being able to score the ball in the paint tonight against Ayton and the other Sun's bigs. The Lakers will be forced to shoot the ball, and this is one of the worst shooting teams in all of the NBA. I am willing to fade the Lakers shooters in this spot tonight. Let’s keep this crazy run going in the NBA tonight!
