One win in Toronto does not suddenly make this a successful season for the Lakers, just like one game-tying shot by Russell Westbrook doesn't mean he's any less an issue than he was before yesterday. That shot doesn't happen without an ill-timed Toronto turnover with under five seconds remaining, which itself came after both Russ and LeBron James missed tying 3-point attempts on the previous possession. Yes, the Lakers won in overtime, but there are still very real problems in Tinseltown.
For 24 hours though, the Lakers can breathe easy. Now they try to make it 48 hours as they attempt to get a second straight win for the first time in over two and a half months. That's right: the last time LA won consecutive games was back on January 7, when they beat the Hawks for what was their fourth consecutive victory.
Those four games were all at home though. For consecutive road victories, you have to go all the way back to early December, when the Lakers were away from Cali and still managed to beat the Thunder and the Mavs - a win that came in overtime - in consecutive road outings. It is the only time all season the Lakers won two straight on the road.

All of the above is why they aren't favored in this game. Should they be though? The Wizards, like LA, will be playing on the second night of a back to back and coming in from another city. Last night, they lost to the Knicks to fall to 2-9 since the break, but thanks to a late 16-4 run, they did manage to cover the spread for the first time in their last six outings.
It should not inspire confidence. The Knicks are playing better but also shot under 35 percent from the field for the game, and it wasn't due to anything the Wizards were doing. The Knicks just couldn't hit shots. Even so, New York had a 15-point lead with under five minutes to go, and only their customary late game issues got the Wiz back into it.
This game will be a rock fight, and anyone getting points is the way to go. It's also a Russ return game, which could be a gift or a curse. In the end, trust LeBron against a team that has no one on the roster who can stop him. Take the points on the road.
