With attention turned to playoff races around the league, it would be easy to look past one of the better opportunities on the board between two teams of seemingly equal quality.
Looking at the yearlong standings, there is no discernible difference between these two teams. The Pistons have one fewer win than the Thunder, while Oklahoma City has a better net rating by just a tenth of a point per 100 possessions. There have been four teams in their own class of bad for the entire season and these are two of them (with a hat tip to the Blazers for making a hard late charge to join the party).

Recently though, these teams are nothing alike. Aside from being 9-11 in their last 20 games, the Pistons are 17-2-1 ATS in that time, which is easily the best mark in the league. They are just 5-9 in their last 14, but they have a slightly positive point differential in that time. On the flip side, the Thunder have just two wins in their last 14 games, and those came against the Magic and Blazers. Their net rating in this stretch is second-worst in the NBA above only Portland.
Detroit is coming off a win against the Sixers, who are very much trying to win. OKC is too because they're well-coached and have hungry young players, but they don't have anywhere close to the same horses to get it done. The Pistons romp on the road.

Dallas is 15-6 since the trade that sent Kristaps Porzingis to Washington for Spencer Dinwiddie and Davis Bertans, tied for the third-most wins in the league. Their net rating isn't great - just plus-1.8 - but they are rounding into form even more of late, winning their last three games against the Jazz, Lakers, and Cavs by a total of 40 points. The seeding still needs to shake out, and while they're currently third in the West, they could fall as far as sixth, so they will continue to try and win these games.

Washington has no such sense of purpose. They were officially eliminated from postseason contention last night, and it's fair to wonder whether they will start resting healthy players. KP, if he plays, will probably be motivated to show up his old team, but not nearly as much as Spencer Dinwiddie, who didn't care for how he was portrayed in Washington, and of course, Luka, who would love nothing more than to remind Porzingis just how inadequate he is.
This line, even on the road, should be double digits. Dallas is getting ready for a playoff run, as their recent games show, and this will be a continuation of that trend.
