NBA Parlay Breakdown

The Charlotte Hornets are all but guaranteed the final spot in this year's play-in tournament, but are only 1.5 games outside of the 8th seed, which could make their road to the post-season easier. As such, we have to expect that the Hornets come out fighting in tonight's game against the Orlando Magic - who sit bottom of the Eastern Conference. Over the last two weeks, the Hornets have won 3 of their last 6 games, but in line with their season performances, have struggled on the defensive end, ranking 28th over the last two weeks. Luckily, the Magic come into tonight's game sporting numerous injuries, with Cole Anthony, Franz Wagner, Gary Harris, Wendell Carter Jr, and Admiral Schofield all on today's report. The Magic have lost 5 of their last 6 games and hold the worst offense in the NBA over the last 2 weeks. With the Hornets being fully healthy outside of Gordon Hayward, I'm expecting them to take care of business against the Magic tonight, which is why I'm backing Charlotte on the money line.

Out of the playoffs and facing another summer rebuild, the Los Angeles Lakers are playing for pride at this point - if there's any pride to salvage. The Warriors, on the other hand, continue to tread water while they wait to reunite their big three in the playoffs once Steph Curry recovers from injury. Still, the Lakers enter tonight's game having lost their last 6 games, and over the last 14 days are one of the NBA's worst offensive and defensive teams. The Warriors might have a losing record over the same time period, but they're still a better unit than the Lakers, and can at least be relied upon to play as a team. LeBron James, Anthony Davis, and Russell Westbrook are all questionable for tonight's game, and I can envision a world where we don't see any of those guys for the remainder of the Lakers' schedule. Still, regardless of who lines up for the purple and gold tonight, I can't see them winning, but as the Warriors have their own struggles to contend with, I will back the Lakers on a +12.5-point spread.

Our final game of this three-team parlay sees the New Orleans Pelicans take on the Portland Trail Blazers. Despite their up and down season, the Pelicans are a team bound for the play-in tournament, and that will give them confidence heading into tonight's matchup against a Trail Blazers team in freefall. Furthermore, the Blazers are without their entire primary rotation, with 10 names on their injury report, so they will be forced to play their deep bench guys and two-way players. At that point, statistics go out the window and you back the healthier team that has some form of momentum on their side, which is why we're rolling with the Pelicans on the money line tonight.

A lot of people are expecting the Boston Celtics to rest some of their top talents in tonight's game, as teams get creative in trying to choose where they land in the seeding. With no injury report available at the moment, things are hard to judge, and the decision of the team could swing this parlay in either direction. As such, we'll keep this one short and sweet. If the Celtics announce that Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown, Marcus Smart, and Al Horford are all playing tonight, feel free to switch your parlay to a smaller spread, as the game will be incredibly competitive, although I do still think the Milwaukee Bucks come out on top. If those same players are all out for tonight's game, this parlay seems fair, as Boston's bench is deep and talented, so should be able to keep the contest below a double-digit loss. However, I wouldn't blame you for jumping on the Bucks money line if the Celtics do go down the load management route.

Memphis Grizzlies vs. Denver Nuggets, Single-Game Parlay

  • Memphis Grizzlies +8
  • Over 231 Points

Odds: +181 (Bet $100 to Win $181)

The Memphis Grizzlies have won 5 of their last 6 games over the last two weeks, and sit 1st in defense and 7th in offense on the league's 14-day rolling rankings. Even more impressive, is the Grizzlies have been crushing it despite missing their star player in Ja Morant - but they did that earlier in the year too, so sure, it's impressive, but it's not a surprise. Tonight, the Denver Nuggets are tasked with containing the NBA's most in-form team, but their performances over the last two weeks don't project strength. The Nuggets have won 4 of 7 but hold a bottom 6 defense in the league's rolling rankings, and will be without Jeff Green, Jamal Murray, Zeke Nnaji, Michael Porter Jr, and Vlatko Cancar - but when you have Nikola Jokic, anything is possible. Still, the oddsmakers have the Nuggets as favorites for tonight's game, and while I disagree, I'm willing to play the game. So, I'll be backing the Grizzlies on a +8 spread, and something tells me I'll be smiling with a profit by the end of the night.
