The Dallas Mavericks head to Phoenix to take on the Suns. Will Phoenix be able to cover at home tonight? Matt McCuen makes his pick.
ANALYSIS

Dallas Mavericks vs Phoenix Suns Prediction: Can the Suns Cover at Home?

The Dallas Mavericks will travel west to take on the Phoenix Suns in a best of seven series starting Monday night. The winner of this series will advance to play in the Western Conference championship. The Suns will look to get back to the Western Conference championship for the second time in as many seasons, while the Mavericks will look to advance to their first since 2011.

Dallas Mavericks vs Phoenix Suns Prediction

The Suns entered the postseason as the favorite to win the championship, but an injury to Devin Booker put their status up in the air. Booker returned for game six and helped lead the Suns to a win over the Pelicans advancing them to this game tonight. The Suns were battle-tested all series by a pesky team from New Orleans.

The Pelicans took them to six games, and there was really only one easy win all series for Phoenix in game one. The Mavericks will now look to give them a test of their own, led by Slovenian Born star in the form of Luka Doncic. Donic is one of the best players in the world, and he is just twenty-one years of age. The sky is the limit for this kid, but he does not want to wait around to get his first NBA championship.

Donic has had great support from Jalen Brunson, who really stepped up when Donic missed the first three games of the series. Brunson, who was a champion at Villanova University, is going to get a bag in the off-season. He has improved in every aspect of this game this season for the Mavericks. Spencer Dinwiddie has been solid since coming over from Washington, and sharpshooters Reggie Bullock and Maxi Kleber shot the ball well in round one. Dorian Finney Smith really stepped up for this team on the defensive end as well. They know it will have to be a team effort to dethrone the reigning western conference champs.

I am backing the Suns tonight on the spread at home. They are being undervalued here for a fully loaded Suns team. They should not be a two-possession spread when they are at home facing a team coming off a tough emotional series. I see this fairly similar to the Grizz yesterday in that for young teams, after you win a tough series, the first game can be tough. The Suns were the best home teams in the NBA, sporting a record of 32-9 in Phoenix.

They are fully healthy here tonight, and I just do not think the Mavericks will be able to keep pace with the Suns. The Mavericks are not a great offensive team but hang their hats on the defensive end. They could play with the Jazz due to the Jazz not being able to get stops and score the way the Suns can. This is a different animal than they are getting in Phoenix. If you go on droughts vs the Suns, they will make it hurt and go on massive runs. This is a veteran team that plays with each other and knows their roles. I believe we get a sweet free winner tonight in Phoenix.
