Minnesota Timberwolves vs. San Antonio Spurs Prediction, Pick, Odds: Will Karl-Anthony Towns and Minnesota Roll?
The Minnesota Timberwolves and San Antonio Spurs will both be looking to improve to 5-2 on the season. The Timberwolves should be improving as they’re a team ready to make the jump to contention this NBA season. The Spurs have a whole different story as they’re supposed to be rebuilding and getting ready to bring on a top draft pick next season, yet that hasn’t happened yet. It’s still early in this season, and the story is bound to change the further we get into the season.

Spurs vs. Timberwolves Prediction
Just to echo this: The Timberwolves are supposed to be gearing up for contention. They saw success last season that led them into the playoffs, then they went out and traded a handful of first-round picks to the Utah Jazz for Rudy Gobert. That trade sent a signal out that they’re ready to really, really compete.
The Spurs are in quite the opposite spot. They’ve found little success over the past three seasons, and they were ready to strap up for a full-on rebuild. They shipped Dejounte Murray to the Atlanta Hawks for first-round picks that should help them in their rebuild. The motive was clear, yet the Spurs are 4-2 in the early parts of this season. Of course, it’s a small sample size due to turnover, but what we’ve seen this far into the season shows that they can compete with some solid teams, including the Timberwolves.
The two teams have matched up twice already this season, and they’ve split the season series 1-1 in those two games. Anthony Edwards’ poor shooting performance in that game was the storyline that let the Spurs take that game. In the next matchup between the two teams, Edwards turned his game around and had an efficient 34 points to give the Timberwolves the double-digit win.
It’s hard to imagine that Edwards will play as badly as he did in their first matchup, making this game very hard to win for the Timberwolves. He’s averaging nearly 24 points per game, which could be much higher if he didn’t have the one bad game against the Spurs. That game seems to have been an anomaly.
Edwards supporting cast of Karl Anthony-Towns, D’Angelo Russell, and Rudy Gobert is plenty enough to compete with almost every team in the NBA and is easy enough for them to defeat the Spurs. This game could push the Timberwolves closer to their contender status, while the Spurs could look more like the rebuilding team they’re supposed to be.
Keldon Johnson is leading the rebuilding Spurs, and he’s been doing so very well while averaging nearly 24 points per game as well. He’s shined in their last two games, but he’ll have to face loads of pressure on the ball as the Timberwolves have the potential to be a very solid defensive team with the addition of Gobert.
The line is set at only 6 points, and that’s likely due to the first matchup of the two teams, but I expect this game to be much more like their second matchup. The Timberwolves should easily be able to take care of business and move on to their next matchup to continue building on their impressive record.
