San Diego State vs. Arizona State Odds, Picks and Predictions
There’s only one top-25 matchup on Thursday night’s schedule, and it’s coming to us from Desert Financial Arena in Tempe, AZ. #23 Arizona State is set to host #24 San Diego State in a non-conference matchup.
The Sun Devils are 3-1 on the season, with their only loss coming to a very good Villanova team. Their last time out, they beat fellow Pac-12 member Cal, 70-62, on the road.
San Diego State still has yet to lose this season. They defeated #22 UCLA in their season opener, but haven’t played any Power 5 teams since November 25.
As of Thursday afternoon, the Sun Devils are favored by three points ahead of opening tip and the total is sitting at 142.5 points in most places.
San Diego State vs. Arizona State ATS Pick
Few teams have as much experience in their starting lineup as the Aztecs. SDSU starts three seniors and two juniors. Seniors Matt Mitchell and Jordan Schakel lead the Aztecs offensively, averaging just over 12 points per game each.
Freshman Josh Christopher leads the way for the Sun Devils, averaging 17.5 points per game, while senior Remy Martin is putting up 17.3 ppg.
SDSU is 2-1 ATS this season. As for ASU, they’ve been terrible against the spread this year, covering just once and going 1-3 to this point.
I’m not a huge fan of either of these teams, but I’m going to pick ASU to cover. I think they are a better offensive team and will be tough for SDSU to keep up with without a go-to scorer on their team.
ATS Pick: Arizona State -3 @ -110
San Diego State vs. Arizona State Over/Under Pick
I like this over a lot. Arizona State has scored points on basically everyone. They’ve broken 70 points in every game this year and have broken 90 twice. They score, and most importantly they shoot a decent percentage from the field at 48.1%. What I do worry about for the Sun Devils is 3-point shooting. Christopher and Martin both struggle from range, along with third leading scorer Alonzo Verge. Still, ASU can put the ball in the hoop.
Where we’re going to need some help is with SDSU. I don’t completely trust them offensively. They’ve looked slow and uninspired on that end of the floor at times, but I think the fact that ASU is not a great defensive team could lead to some easy buckets for the Aztecs.
Over/Under Pick: Over 142.5
San Diego State vs. Arizona State Moneyline Pick
As I said earlier, I’m laying the points with ASU so I obviously like them moneyline as well. I just think they’re a better, more complete offensive team than SDSU and while I expect a tight game in the first half, I think they pull away after that.
At -140, the moneyline price isn’t terrible either. As long as they hit their open shots, the Sun Devils should get a solid win over a ranked opponent tonight.
Moneyline Pick: Arizona State ML @ -140
