Florida State vs. Michigan Predictions & Sweet 16 Picks: Wolverines To Beat Seminoles
It's #4 vs #1 as Florida State meet Michigan in the Sweet 16. The game will take place Bankers Life Fieldhouse and it's arguably the most exciting matchup in a brilliant slate.
These are two teams who are familiar with this stage of the competition having last reached the regional semifinals in 2019.
Florida State defeated UNCG with ease in the First Round before they beat #5 seed Colorado by 18 points in the second round on Monday. They've not been playing lights out but they're going about their business in simple and effective style, making them a threat for Michigan on Sunday.
Michigan have had a fairly easy route to the Sweet 16. They smashed TX Southern by 16 points in the first round and then beat LSU, an #8 seed in the Second Round. They only forced three turnovers against the Tigers, which could be a worry ahead of this game.
It's going to be a great game and we'll be watching on Sunday.
Florida State vs. Michigan Early Odds
As you can see from our odds grid here, all the books believe that Michigan will seal their place in the next round. It's not a surprise given that they are a #1 seed but at only -155 odds it's clear that the bettors don't think that the Wolverines are a lock.
Team | Point Spread | Moneyline |
---|---|---|
Florida State | +3 | +135 |
Michigan | -3 | -155 |
Michigan are 3-point favorites, which isn't as large as some of the other #1 seeds remaining in the competition. The Wolverines covered the -5 spread when they beat LSU and we believe that will happen again.
Florida State vs. Michigan Against The Spread Pick
Coming into the NCAA Tournament I thought that Michigan were the weakest of the #1 seeds, but they're still here and still fighting. FSU will be a tougher opponent than any that they've faced so far but they'll cover the 3-point spread.
FSU gave up the ball 15 times against Colorado in the Second Round, they simply can't afford to do that against Michigan. They trailed in rebounds, as well as leading in turnovers, a combination which will be problematic. Michigan don't have an elite defense, they only forced 3 turnovers in their last game, but they have the size and power to stop FSU. They showed up toward the end of the game versus LSU and were strong when needed.
Michigan will look to push the tempo and force FSU into playing their game. If the Wolverines do that then they'll have a great chance to win this game, and cover the spread.
