In the early game of the Final Four we get the Baylor Bears vs the Houston Cougars. Hold on during this one fellas, it’s going to be a good one. What more can we ask for to start off our Saturday. This all Texas affair is scheduled to tip at 5:14 EST on CBS.
We are all familiar with these two teams by now. Baylor is phenomenal both sides of the ball, but does tend to go on scoring droughts. As far as the Cougars go, Houston will get in your shots and lock you up. Baylor is backed by their stellar 3 guards in Jared Butler, Davion Mitchell, and Macio Teague. If one of these guys isn’t on, you can guarantee the others will be. They get a lot of help from big fella Mark Vital who plays harder than anyone. Baylor is one of the best teams in the nation BOTH sides of the ball. These boys get after it.
For the University of Houston Cougs, they are led by Dejon Jarreau, Quentin Grimes, and Marcus Sasser. Houston rotates between 3-4 big men every game who all have about the same skill level. The Cougars are in the Final Four for the first time since ’84 and the Phi Slama Jama era. Houston doesn’t have as much national recognition as the Bears, probably due to the fact they play in the American Conference. But do not let that persuade you.
KenPom ranks Quentin Grimes as the nation’s ninth best player and rightfully so. This cat can pop off in a variety of ways by getting to the rim or pullin up on your girl from deep. Houston is 7th in the country in adjusted offensive efficiency and 8th in adjusted defensive efficiency, per KenPom. Baylor is 3rd on offense and 28th on defense. I expect Houston to keep this one close in this Final Four battle of Texas schools. Look for Jerreau to be getting in dudes shorts and that Houston defense to make things difficult for Baylor. Im backing the Cougs to keep this puppy close and a chance Kelvin Sampson takes his squad to the Natty. I also expect this line to jump to 5.5 or 6. GO COUGS!
