Maryland vs. George Mason prediction and pick for Wednesday's college basketball matchup. Jason Radowitz gives his pick for this showdown.

Maryland vs. George Mason Prediction and Pick: Will Maryland Collapse?

The Maryland Terrapins are playing well enough to win but aren’t playing nearly as well as some would’ve expected to start the season. Maryland is 3-0 to start the year but has three wins against mid-major opponents by about 10 points each. There have been no blowouts, and they’ve shot 41.2 percent from the field. Now they’ll welcome the George Mason Patriots to the XFINITY Center, looking for the same result, a 10-14 point win.

However, George Mason has started the season 3-0 and has dominated their competition, averaging 83.7 points per game while allowing 57 points per game. Could this be the spot where Maryland finally collapses? Here are our picks and predictions for the George Mason vs. Maryland game on Wednesday, November 17.

Maryland vs. George Mason Prediction

George Mason is doing what Maryland should be doing. The Patriots knocked off Stony Brook, 74-52, beat up Penn 87-66 and smacked Morgan State around 90-53. The competition was a bit weak, but George Mason took care of business behind leading scorer Josh Oduro. He’s averaging 19.3 points per game and is shooting 71.4 percent from the floor. He’s not forcing anything and letting the game come to him. And it’s paying off. Defensively, George Mason has really limited fouls and has dominated on the defensive glass. They’ve also held opponents to under 40 percent from inside the arc.

Maryland, on the other hand, is led by transfer point guard Fatts Russell. Russell is leading the team with 16.3 points per game along with 2.3 assists per game. He and transfer Qudus Wahab, who is averaging a near double-double, have been the two most consistent players for this team so far. This team is still trying to gel with one another, but by game four, there are no more excuses. Maryland hasn’t been able to force many turnovers and has shot an effective field goal percentage of 45.2 percent. The Terrapins are literally shooting 23.4 percent from downtown through three games this season. If they had played better competition, Maryland would have had a couple of losses and wouldn’t be ranked.

Now, that better competition is here. George Mason has looked terrific, shooting 40.5 percent from long range and 65.6 percent from inside the arc. The shot selection is tremendous, and they’re not forcing anything. With four guys in double figures, George Mason is playing together and having fun doing it.

The Patriots are currently shooting 40.6 percent of their shots from long range, and while they’re not getting to the line at a high rate, this team is taking great shots and averaging over 15 assists per game. I’ll grab the 10.5 points with George Mason here.
