Purdue vs. North Carolina Prediction

The Purdue Boilermakers have already proven that they’ll be one of the best teams in the nation. With three victories of 25+ deficits, Purdue is just showing off on both ends of the ball.

Via KenPom, Purdue is currently in the Top 20 in both offensive and defensive efficiency. Teams that can sustain this type of success throughout the season are usually champions at the end of the year. Still, Purdue hasn’t faced extremely tough competition, but Indiana State, for example, is no easy game. Led by center Zach Edey, the Purdue offense has an effective field goal percentage of 61.6 percent. They’re dominating the offensive glass, grabbing 46.5 percent of misses, and are getting to the line at a very high rate. Again, this is due to Edey, who is a 7-4 center averaging a double-double with 18.7 points and 10.3 rebounds per game. The Boilermakers are also knocking down 41.7 percent of long-range shots and 60.8 percent of shots inside the arc. It’s just been too easy on the offensive end for Purdue.

North Carolina can say the same on offense. Led by Caleb Love, the North Carolina Tar Heels are averaging 90.3 points per game. Love leads the team with 19 points per game, along with Armando Bacot, who is close to averaging a double-double with 18 points and 9.3 rebounds per game. The addition of Brady Manek has been helpful as well, as he’s averaging 17 points with 7.3 rebounds. I’ve basically mentioned the big three for North Carolina, and those three make up a lot of the Tar Heels’ points. North Carolina is shooting a 59.7 percent effective field goal percentage and has rarely turned the ball over so far. They’re getting to the line at a high rate and are shooting 60.5 percent inside while shooting 38.7 percent from outside.

Neither team is going to force a whole lot of turnovers. North Carolina has forced just 11.3 percent through three games, while Purdue has earned turnovers just 17.2 percent.

Therefore, we can expect plenty of shots to go up in this game between some of the best scorers in all of college basketball. So I’ll grab the over in this one and lean Purdue to cover  -6.
