Iowa State vs. Creighton Prediction: Will Unbeaten Cyclones Pass First True Road Test?

Does anyone remember last year? The Iowa State Cyclones went 2-22 overall and 0-18 in conference play.

This year, the Cyclones are 7-0 to start the year and ranked 19th in the nation. Don’t you just love college basketball? What a turnaround!

Iowa State already has wins against Xavier and Memphis and defeated a quality Oregon State team early this year. You can thank scheduling a bit for the recent success of Iowa State, however, as the Cyclones didn’t play a true road game through their first seven games.

Tonight’s the first road test, going up against the Creighton Bluejays in the Big East-Big 12 Battle. Creighton is 7-1 on the year with no impressive wins outside of beating Nebraska on the road. The tough schedule is coming up now.

Can Creighton prove its worth against Iowa State at home? Here are our picks and predictions for the Iowa State vs Creighton basketball game for Saturday, December 4.

Iowa State vs Creighton Prediction

The Iowa State Cyclones will play their first true road game in the Big East-Big 12 Battle. They’ve already knocked out Xavier by 12 and Memphis by 19 this season. Iowa State basketball is back.

They’re built on experience and defense this season but should also have success offensively against Creighton.

Iowa State is allowing teams to shoot an effective field goal percentage of 43.6 percent on the year. The Cyclones are also forcing 26.6 percent of turnovers on the season while limiting teams to just 25.8 percent from deep.

Iowa State won’t have trouble limiting threes in this game against Creighton, however, the Bluejays are very capable of scoring inside, averaging 59.6 percent from the field inside the arc.

The Cyclones will also foul at a very high rate, but that might not be so bad knowing that Creighton is shooting just 65.2 percent from the line this season.

Currently, Creighton is scoring 63.1 percent of its points inside the arc, which is basically the one area where Iowa State has struggled a bit defending. The Cyclones haven’t been awful defending inside, but have been a bit above average, which in comparison to their three-point defense, is a weakness. Teams are shooting 46.4 percent inside the arc against Iowa State. So again, it’s Iowa State really has been solid on the defensive end.

Meanwhile, Creighton isn’t a threat to earn turnovers on the defensive end. The Bluejays are allowing teams to shoot 32.5 percent from long range and 43.7 percent from inside the arc.

While Iowa State fouls a ton, Creighton does the exact opposite. Creighton is in the top 10 in free throws attempted to field goals attempted ratio on the defensive end.

If Iowa State gets their way, they’re going to try to make Creighton a little bit more aggressive and try to a lot more whistles blown.

If anything, I like Iowa State to stay in this game as they’ll force more turnovers and get more shots attempted in this game.
