Louisiana vs. Houston prediction and pick for Tuesday's college basketball showdown. Handicapper Jason Radowitz breaks down his best bet for this one

Louisiana vs. Houston Prediction: Cougars Need To Bounce Back From Controversial Loss

The Houston Cougars were not happy after losing to Alabama three days ago. Houston was down one with seconds to go. As time expired, it looks like Alabama might have goaltended the game-winning shot. However, the refs didn’t budge and ended the game without calling a goaltend.

It’s a tough call to make and one that isn’t reviewable. After that emotional loss, Houston will look to bounce back, at home, against the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns.

Louisiana is coming off a loss to Louisiana Tech but is still 5-4 on the season. Here are our picks and predictions for tonight’s game between the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns and the Houston Cougars at 8 pm ET on ESPN+.

Louisiana vs Houston Prediction

The Houston Cougars took a tough loss to Alabama a few days ago, after losing 83-82 on the road. Houston isn’t used to give up this many points in a single game. You can expect the Cougars to buckle down defensively and make it really hard for Louisiana on the offensive end.

Louisiana has already struggled on the offensive end. The Ragin’ Cajuns have shot an effective field goal percentage of 44.9 percent while turning the ball over 23.2 percent of the time. However, Louisiana is capable of grabbing offensive rebounds, as the Ragin’ Cajuns have earned 34 percent offensive rebounds on the year.

Still, Louisiana is only shooting 32.5 percent from long range and 42.7 percent from inside the arc.

One area where Houston has struggled defensively is fouling. Houston plays such hard defense that fouling is inevitable. However, even if Louisiana were to get to the line, the Ragin’ Cajuns don’t shoot all that well from the charity stripe, with a 66.9 percent rate this season.

Houston should also be able to limit Louisiana on the glass and will absolutely dominate in the turnover department. Houston is getting opponents to turn the ball over 24.9 percent of the time. Again, Louisiana is turning the ball over 23.2 percent of the time on offense to begin with.

The Cougars are top five in defensive efficiency via KenPom and top 10 in offensive efficiency in KenPom. These types of teams are elite and always show up, especially at home.

The Cougars have struggled from the line, shooting 64.6 percent, but are still shooting 38 percent from long range and 55.7 percent from inside the arc. Louisiana has defended the long-range jumper well, allowing just 27.3 percent of shots behind the arc to fall, however, inside, Louisiana has struggled, allowing teams to shoot 51.5 percent.

Louisiana has plenty of depth on their team and it’ll work in the Sun Belt Conference. However, if Louisiana tries to start playing depth off the bench against Houston, this game will get away quickly.
