Purdue Boilermakers vs. Butler Bulldogs prediction and pick for Saturday's college basketball matchup. Jason Radowitz gives his pick for today's showdown at noon.

Purdue vs. Butler Prediction: Can Butler Cash the Huge Upset?

Since Purdue faced Rutgers, the Boilermakers haven’t looked nearly as impressive. Purdue lost to Rutgers on the road and struggled with North Carolina State before beating the Wolfpack in overtime, 82-72. Tonight, they’ll look to put together a statement game in the Crossroads Classic against the Butler Bulldogs.

However, Purdue is still one of the best teams in the nation. While the last two games haven’t looked like it, the Boilermakers have wins over teams like North Carolina, Villanova, Florida State, and Iowa. Purdue is also the favorite to win the Big Ten at this time.

On the other hand, Butler struggled earlier this season, with three straight losses to top competition. However, since those three losses, Butler has won four consecutive games. Three of those games were get-right games, but it all worked out as the Bulldogs also defeated Oklahoma.

Here are our picks and predictions for the Crossroads Classic between the Butler Bulldogs and Purdue Boilermakers on a neutral court in the Gainbridge Fieldhouse.

Purdue vs. Butler Prediction

Despite Purdue’s recent struggles, the offense is still ranked first in the nation via KenPom, with an adjusted offensive efficiency of 119.4. The Boilermakers are shooting a 59.7 percent effective field goal percentage and are knocking down 40.3 percent from downtown while hitting 59.2 percent from inside the arc. The Boilermakers also dominate the glass, earning 38.8 percent offensive rebounds and getting to the line at an extremely high rate on a game-by-game basis. However, inside the arc, the Bulldogs allow opponents to hit 53.1 percent of shots on the season. Purdue will take plenty of threes but have two incredible forwards and plenty of athleticism to dominate Butler inside, like most teams, have this season.

On the other hand, Butler is turning the ball over 23.1 percent of the time and is shooting 34.9 percent from long range along with 46.6 percent from inside the arc. The Bulldogs take plenty of threes, and they’re better off doing that as they’ve been more efficient from long range in the first place.

Still, Purdue has held opponents to 31.4 percent from downtown and limited offensive rebounds to 21.6 percent for their opponents this season. It’s also not easy finding the line against Purdue either. But still, there are books out there giving 16.5 points to Butler right now, and I think that’s too much to pass up.

While Butler struggles with turnovers, Purdue isn’t a threat to force takeaways. Therefore, Butler will at least get shot attempts and have a chance to score points at a higher rate than they might be used to. If I’m getting 16.5 points with Butler, I’ll take it. But by no means is Butler winning this game outright.
