Georgia Tech vs. Georgia State Prediction

It sure looks like the ACC is down this year, doesn't it? They have one ranked team (#2 Duke), after that, you have to go all the way to No. 34 for North Carolina. I can't remember the ACC being so down, and they got beat up by the Big Ten in the challenge earlier this year.

That said, we are going with the ACC tonight because we feel a little in-state rivalry will wake up the sleeping Yellow Jackets.

Georgia Tech started the season great, but guess what? They beat no one at all. Georgia is also down this year and they've played everyone well and still lost to all of them, including the last four to Wisconsin (ranked), North Carolina, LSU (ranked), and USC (ranked). Playing good teams helps you put your ego in check, especially when you lose them all, since when you play bad teams you know what you have to do.

So, you can see why GT has lost fourin a row. They win against bad teams but they are not a good team, so they better win every game they can this year when they play those bad teams on the schedule.

Georgia St. is awful -- it's that simple, and we feel this line is off as it should be closer to double-digits, but people see six wins and they think this team is good. Georgia St. lost by 29 as a nine-point dog to Mississippi St, they lost by 35 to Rhode Island as a nine-point dog, and they lost to Richmond by 16 as a seven-point dog. So you can see, when they lose to good teams, it's usually a blowout loss.

The teams Georgia St. is beating are teams you have never heard of for a reason -- Toccoa Falls Screaming Eagles from the always-tough National Christian College Athletic Association (had to make sure that was real), the Voorhees Tigers from the NAIA , and the Brewton Parker College Barons (a private Baptist college with 800 students). Give me a break. I think we can get a few guys together and probably beat these guys.

Georgia Tech isn't winning because they flat-out can't score (249th-ranked offense) against good teams. That said, today we feel they are playing a bad team and will perform like the team that won 4 out of 5 to start the season (3 of those by double-digits).

We need Michael Devoe to play as he has been, as this guy should take every shot for the Jackets -- he is averaging 22.4 points a game while shooting 51% from the three-point line. Georgia St. just had a guy shoot 8 for 9 from the three-point line against the tough Christian College Toccoa Falls, so we feel that's what Michael Devoe will do tonight since the talent guarding him is about the equal of who was guarding Corey Allen that night.

Early in the year records mean nothing, and in CBB, you really have to check strength of schedule. GT will get back to what they were early in the year and get us a double-digit win over the awful Panthers of Georgia St.

A few numbers as well -- Georgia St. has lost their last 4 ATS and are 1-5 in their last 6 as a dog, and somehow won a crazy OT game the last time they played, so GT coaches will probably remind them of that.

Lay the 4.5 with Georgia Tech and watch them win by double-digits tonight as Devoe goes off and they fix their scoring issues...for tonight.
