Marquette vs. Providence Prediction
Providence is one of the quiet hot teams in college basketball as they are now ranked 16th in the country and riding an eight-game winning streak. The reason they are winning is defense, as they are holding opponents to 59 points a game during the winning streak, and so far this year, they are holding teams under 40% in over half of the games they played. In their last game, they destroyed Depaul with their best 3 point shooting performance of the year. This team is a proud defensive team, and they have been playing like it. One of their players said, "That physicality really allowed us to be great on the defensive side of the ball." Not only do they have a good defense, but they also have a good offense with four guys averaging double digits this year, led by Nate Watson at almost 14 a game. This team looks great, playing great D and a balanced offense and now a top 20 team, yet we feel tonight won't be their night.
We have used Marquette a lot this year, whether with or against them, and tonight, we feel it is the night to go with them. They are cold, having lost four games in a row, losing to UCLA, a top 10 team, Xavier (11-2 this year), Uconn (10-3 this year), and 10-3 Creighton in OT. That's a murderer's row right there, and clearly, Providence doesn't make it any easier. Marquette's best player Darryl Morsell is back from the health and safety break and played okay, but with a game under his belt, he should be back to the superstar he is. Other guys have stepped in with him out, and Oso Ighodaro has been playing great and now makes this team more balanced. It's sad to say this, but Marquette hasn't won at home since November 30th, which is unacceptable in this conference.
We feel tonight is the night Marquette gets their first win in over a month at home because of our model and the fact Morsell is 100%, and now this team is more balanced because of guys being out. Tonight is the night they end this Providence streak. Marquette has a history of beating this team, and Shaka Smart knows this is a massive game for his young team. We are going to lay the -1 with Marquette as they end their losing streak and end Providence winning streak tonight. Trust the numbers, lay it with Marquette as they pull the upset and get back on track.
