Florida vs. Alabama Prediction: Is Alabama Vulnerable on the Road?

The Alabama Crimson Tide will take on the Florida Gators in an exciting SEC matchup slated for tonight, Wednesday, January 5 at 7 pm ET on ESPN2.

Alabama has struggled offensively in their last three games but was still able to knock off a shorthanded Tennessee last time out at home.

Meanwhile, Florida defeated two mid-major schools to start a two-game win streak. However, with SEC starting up, Florida's going to have to prove that they can beat some of the best competition in college basketball.

Here are our picks and predictions for this SEC rivalry matchup between the Alabama Crimson Tide and the Florida Gators.

Florida vs. Alabama Prediction

The Florida Gators have been really good on the defensive end this season. The Gators have held opponents to a 47 percent effective field goal percentage while holding opponents to just 28.7 percent from downtown this season.

While Florida is going to struggle inside against Alabama, the Gators can minimize shot attempts thanks to turnovers. The Gators are forcing 25.1 percent of turnovers this season and should get plenty more in tonight's game against Alabama.

Alabama is looking to score quickly. The Crimson Tide are using just 15.3 seconds per possession this season while shooting 32.8 percent from three and 59 percent from inside. Inside the arc, Alabama is dangerous, except for the fact that Alabama is getting fewer than 50 percent of points from inside, despite shooting 59 percent.

The Crimson Tide are shooting a bunch of threes and lately, those just haven't been falling. Some of it is quality defense and some of it is just poor shot selection. Either way, Alabama is shooting below 30 percent from long range in their last three games while Florida, on the other hand, is shooting over 35 percent from deep.

On the season, Florida is only shooting 31.2 percent from long range, but that percentage continues to get higher as the season progresses. The Gators have also hit 51.4 percent from inside the arc and shoot a higher free throw percentage in comparison to Alabama.

Therefore, I like Florida to win this matchup at home. Florida has really limited three-point shooting this season and that should continue against Alabama, who will be playing just its second true road game of the season.

In the first one, Alabama lost to Memphis 92-78. The Crimson Tide also lost a couple of neutral games to Davidson and Iona this year.
