Michigan vs. Illinois Prediction

The Michigan Wolverines are fully healthy barring any late news tonight. At 7-6, the Wolverines have not been great but things can turn around in a hurry. That's the great thing about playing in the Big Ten. Every game is hard and every game matters. Michigan is still in the top 50 in offensive and defensive efficiency via KenPom. The Wolverines are shooting an effective field goal percentage of 52.9 percent while only turning the ball over 18.3 percent of the time. Michigan has hit 34 percent of threes and 53.8 percent of shits inside the arc on the year. However, Illinois has held opponents to 42.5 percent from inside the arc and will make it hard for Michigan to score at a high rate in this game. Illinois won't force a bunch of turnovers but the Fighting Illini will dominate the glass and have done a solid job with keeping teams off the foul line. Michigan, even if they get to the line, is hitting just 68 percent from the foul line this season. On the other hand, Illinois will turn the ball more often than Michigan, but the Fighting Illini are able to grab a nation-leading 41.3 percent offensive rebounds. The turnovers are bad, but the second chances on offense help the box score forget about the turnovers a little easier. Illinois is hitting 38.7 percent from deep and 53.1 percent from inside the arc. The Wolverines are capable of getting stops around the perimeter, as they've held teams to 29 percent on the season from long range. Illinois will end up with more three-point attempts in this game and continue to be the offense with better ball movement. You will never see a Wolverines player on the floor with two fouls in the first half. And it could get physical down low between Illinois' Kofi Cockburn and Michigan's Hunter Dickinson. But all in all, Illinois is getting 9.5 points in a game where Michigan is healthy. The Wolverines have the talent to compete with anyone and although the Wolverines likely won't win this game, I've got them covering.
