Oregon vs. Colorado Prediction
Tonight we go out west to a PAC-12 battle between the Colorado Buffaloes and the travesty in college ball right now, the unranked Oregon Ducks. So what does a team have to do to get ranked? You got to ask these days. All year, all preseason, the PAC-12 was a three-headed monster. Consisting of USC, UCLA, and Arizona, who play each other tonight and are top 10 in the country, have all lived up to the hype. But Oregon has quietly done things that people may not have noticed playing out West.
Oregon did something that is rarely done. They went on the road and beat not one but two top-five ranked teams in their own home in the same week. That is quite the accomplishment, and honestly, the UCLA game did go to overtime, but Oregon controlled that game, and the USC game was a blowout from start to finish. Watching plenty of basketball, we feel the Baylor and Oregon game is when things changed for the players and the coaches. Oregon was up all game and blew it in the second half where they shot 54% to 51% by Baylor and still lost by 8 is pretty crazy, but that is the game that we feel changed the season around for Oregon. Since that Baylor game, the Ducks have gone 6-0 and, as we mentioned, beat two top-five teams on the road, and four of those six have been by 9 points or more as well.
Oregon is just getting stronger and better. Look at the last game. They were up 48-13 at halftime against Washington, the 6th best team in the league. That game was total domination. This team is led by the quack attack of the three guards who play relentlessly on both sides of the ball in Will Richardson, Jacob Young, and Devon Harmon. These three all score in double digits, rebound, and lead the team in assists (1-2-3 on the team). If you look at the numbers, Oregon doesn't do anything extraordinary, but they are shooting 47% from the field and 37% from the 3-point line. They have stepped it up recently. In their last eight games, they scored over 70 every game, but when they scored 68 and four of their previous six, they held opponents under 70. This team is clicking on all cylinders and because of COVID had a week off, and it didn't stop them from blowing out Washington. Oregon has no big games to look ahead to, so they will be motivated to win and be ranked finally.
We have spoken about Colorado before, and we said stop Jabari Walker, and you should beat this young team. USC did it that night, holding Walker to 3-9 shooting as the whole team shot 31% (you don't win much shooting that low). Walker followed that up with a 19 -7 game against UCLA, and they hung around but were never going to beat the Bruins. Even though they shot 50%, they had 21 turnovers which is why this young team is still learning how to win.
Oregon is led by seniors and juniors versus the young Buffaloes team still learning the college game. If we look at home versus away, which is important with the altitude in Colorado, we see that the Buffaloes play well at home. Losing by 3-6 points only to the ranked California teams, but on the road, Colorado has lost by 21 at Arizona and 12 at UCLA. This, of course, is a road game that we feel they will lose by double digits again. Since that Baylor loss that we think changed their attitude and season, Oregon has won every game by nine or more.
Stop Walker, take advantage of the quack attack experience, and know what will happen. We have other great numbers for this game, but the favorite is 13-3 in this series, the home team is 15-2 ATS, and we feel confident the Ducks will prevail at home. Ducks by double digits at home! As we write this, the Ducks are -7.5 at Caesars. QUACK QUACK, let's cash another.
