Texas vs. Tennessee prediction and pick for Saturday's college basketball matchup in the SEC/Big 12 Challenge on ESPN. Handicapper Matt McCuen gives us his pick for this showdown.
ANALYSIS

Texas vs. Tennessee Prediction: Will the Longhorns Roll in the SEC/Big 12 Challenge Tonight?

Saturday night, we have a loaded slate, including a ton of college basketball! I will be looking at one matchup in particular as the Tennessee Volunteers will travel to Austin to take on the Texas Longhorns. These are a pair of teams who have high hopes for March Madness and two championship-caliber rosters.

A headline in this game also will be the return of long-time Texas head coach Rick Barnes. Barnes was one of the best coaches in Longhorns basketball history, and many will tell you he was the best. He will be looking to come into a tough environment on Saturday night and knock off his former team.

Texas vs. Tennessee Line Movement

Texas vs. Tennessee Prediction

Chris Beard is in his first season at Texas, and they have been a bit disappointing to start this season. This is one of the best rosters in all of college basketball but so far this season, they have struggled at times. They are coming off a big road win over TCU in blowout fashion, and they are hoping that can flip their season around. I believe in this Texas team as they are one of the teams I took in the pre-season to win the national championship. Early on, I expected some struggles because they are a team filled with transfers. They were always going to take some time to mesh together, and now is a time in the season I think they will hit their stride. I will be backing the Longhorns tonight but let’s get more into why I love them in this spot.

The first reason is quite simple. I believe they are the more talented team than Tennesse. Tennessee is a good team, but they have shown this season to fall into some serious dry spells shooting the ball. Texas happens to be one of the nation's best defenses, especially in the half-court, as they are allowing just 54.7 points per game. Their offense is currently scoring about seventy per game, with the early season struggles. I believe their defense shows up tonight and makes it a long night for Tennessee shooting the basketball.

I also love the fact we are getting the short line on home court. Saturday night at home national television game, this place will be rocking! I think the energy of the fans will be a huge factor in this type of game. I have this line closer to -5.5/6 so getting a number this short is a no-brainer to me. I will trust the best defense in the nation and the overall more talented team on their home court tonight. Kick back and enjoy and let’s get rich!
