College Basketball Picks: 2 Best Bets for Friday's Games

Smaller slate this evening in college basketball, but two games have caught my attention. The first is a somewhat high-profile matchup in the mountain west conference between Colorado St and San Diego St and the second is a lower profile game in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) between Rider and Siena.

Colorado State has been a very impressive team out of the mountain west conference this season, but they have been struggling lately as they have lost 2 games in a row. Even though Colorado state has been struggling recently, I think this is the perfect spot to back them at home in a revenge game. Earlier in the season San Diego St absolutely embarrassed them in a 30-point win over the Rams (79-49), in what was probably Colorado State's worst game of the year and SDSU's best game of the year.

This game has a similar dynamic to the UCLA/Arizona matchup from last night in the sense that the team who is now favored got blown out in the first meeting. We saw how that turned out with Arizona last night. San Diego State has also struggled on the road this season with a less than stellar 1-3 record including losses to BYU, Utah St, and Michigan. Their only road win of the season came against a middle of the pack UNLV team, so SDSU really has not been that impressive away from home this year. Colorado St has defended their home court very well this season with a 10-1 record and think they will defend home court again here. I will be rolling with the Colorado State Rams -3.5 -107

Siena Vs Rider

Unless you bet college basketball on a daily/weekly basis, you probably don't know or haven't heard much about these teams, but Rider has been a team with very weird splits this season. They are one of the worst home teams in the country and have only gone 3-5 at home this season with 2 of their wins coming against lowly Coppin St and Delaware St. On the road however, Rider has been a completely different team and seems to give a much better effort away from home.

In their last 4 road conference games, Rider has gone 4-0 ATS and 2-2 straight up while being at least 4-point dogs in each of those games. For some reason, Rider seems to rise to the occasion when they travel away from home, and I think this is a good spot to back them tonight. Siena has been playing well as of late winning 3 games in a row, but they have not been able to sustain that production all season as they only have a 9-8 record on the season. I am expecting some regression tonight from Siena and expect Rider to give their best effort as they usually do on the road and think they can keep this game close.
