Oklahoma vs. Texas Tech Prediction
The Oklahoma Sooners have drastically underperformed expectations this season. Meanwhile, Texas Tech has been dominant, especially on the defensive end. The Texas Tech Red Raiders are allowing teams to shoot an effective field goal percentage of 44.6 percent while earning 23.5 percent turnovers. This is huge, knowing that Oklahoma has been careless with the basketball this season, giving the ball away 21.9 percent of the time. The Red Raiders are holding opponents to just 30.5 percent from deep and 43.6 percent from inside. But despite the dominant defense inside, it's going to be challenging getting stops against Oklahoma inside.
The Sooners don't do much well this season but inside is the one area that they have played well. Oklahoma is shooting 58.1 percent from inside the arc on the year and will be a handful for Texas Tech inside regardless of how good Texas Tech has been down low. Still, Oklahoma isn't earning many offensive rebounds and doesn't get to the line at a high rate, even though the Sooners shoot 75.1 percent at the line.
On the flip side, Oklahoma's defense is what has kept them in games this season. The Sooners have held opponents to 30.4 percent from deep and 49.2 percent from inside. The Sooners will still force turnovers and have plenty of potential against Texas Tech to earn a solid amount of turnovers as well.
Texas Tech is turning the ball over 19.6 percent of the time while Oklahoma is earning 21.7 percent turnovers. So there's room for the Sooners to win back a bunch of turnovers as well. Plus, the Red Raiders are shooting just 32 percent from downtown while Oklahoma is allowing just 30.4 percent from deep this season on the defensive end.
Texas Tech wins games on the glass and always earns a lot of points at the charity stripe. If Oklahoma can keep Texas Tech away from its averages in those two categories, they'll have a chance at winning this game. Ultimately, it's not the defense that's in question right now. It's the offense. But inside, Oklahoma might shock Texas Tech a bit.
I'll take Oklahoma +3.5, at home. We might see another court storm tonight.
