Fresno State vs. Colorado State Prediction: Is Colorado State Back on Track?

The Mountain West has become one of the more underrated conferences in college basketball. Nobody will be surprised when multiple teams come out of this conference to play in the NCAA Tournament and get to the Sweet 16. The Colorado State Rams are 18-3 on the season and finally overcame a slight hiccup after losing two straight to UNLV and Wyoming. The Rams defeated San Diego State and Nevada to get back on track. Meanwhile, Fresno State is 16-7 on the year but is coming off a hard-fought loss to Wyoming on Sunday, at home.

Fresno State vs. Colorado State Prediction

Winning isn't easy in this conference. However, both teams have been pretty consistent in Mountain West play. Fresno State has excelled on the defensive end, holding opponents to a 47.3 percent effective field goal percentage. The Bulldogs dominate the defensive glass and allow just 22.9 percent offensive rebounds per game. Opponents are hitting just 31.6 percent from three and 47.3 percent from inside the arc against Fresno State this year. Meanwhile, Colorado State is one of the best offenses in the nation. The Rams are shooting an effective field goal percentage of 56.3 percent while turning the ball over just 15.3 percent of the time. Colorado State is also nailing .37.8 percent from deep along with 56.1 percent from inside the arc. But again, Fresno State has the defense to get stops, and ultimately, Colorado State only averages 22 percent offensive rebounds, so second chances won't be frequent against Fresno State. On the other hand, Fresno State loves to play in the halfcourt. The Bulldogs shoot a 51.1 percent effective field goal percentage while knocking down 33.8 percent of threes and 51.3 percent of twos this season. The Rams are just as good on the defensive glass, however, so again, second chances will be limited on both ends of the floor. However, Colorado State is allowing teams to shoot 50.7 percent from inside and that's the one area where Fresno State is shooting above average, at 51.3 percent. Despite Colorado State being home, the Rams are six-point favorites, and that's just too many points for a Fresno State team that has really done a terrific job on the defensive end. Shooting is sometimes unpredictable. Effort isn't unpredictable. The defense will be there and the Bulldogs will get stops.
