Kansas State has played much better than anticipated this year in Big 12 play, even though they are only 5-7, but this line tonight seems a bit off to me. Usually, when two conference teams face-off, there is a home and away game, and the line usually shifts 5-7 points for home-court advantage. In the first matchup, West Virginia were 9-point favorites and now find themselves as 4-point underdogs for a 13-point line discrepancy. I think this line has shifted a bit too far towards the wildcats and think there is value with the Mountaineers here, particularly in the 1st Half. If you look at West Virginia this season, they have been much more competitive in the 1st Half of games compared to the 2nd Half. In conference play specifically, they covered the 1st Half on the road against Baylor, Kansas, and Texas Tech where they were very competitive. WVU would then go on to get blown out by Kansas and Texas Tech and lose the game to Baylor after holding an 8-point halftime lead. Taz Sherman is also back in the lineup for WVU who adds much-needed scoring, toughness, and experience to their lineup. WVU had a massive 20-point comeback in the 2nd Half of the first matchup between these teams and I think they will be able to channel that into a strong start in the 1st Half of this game. Holy Cross is near the bottom of the Patriot League in nearly every major category, but they have been playing like a team possessed over the past few weeks. They have gone 5-1 in their last 6 games and have won each of those games while being an underdog of at least 4 points. They even took down one of the patriot league favorites, Boston U, where they were 16-point underdogs. Now they get to face a dreadful American squad who has been playing very badly lately, especially in the 1st Half of games. In their last 4 road games, American has been outscored in the 1st Half by an average margin of 13 points. They do not start games very well and think Holy Cross has the revenge factor with added motivation as American beat them pretty handily earlier in the season. Holy Cross has been hot and has a lot of confidence right now so my pick for tonight is going to be Holy Cross 1H ML at -135 as I think they get off to a fast start here tonight.
