ANALYSIS

Houston vs. Memphis Prediction: Will Memphis Keep Up in AAC Championship Final?

Does it scare me that I am betting two team totals over today? Kind of. I mean it is the end of the conference tournaments and you would have to think the kids are gassed. Still, how could you possibly sit down and hope to not see balls go in hoops? Seriously. What is wrong with people? I can't get behind that. I have to believe that even though these kids have been run ragged in the past few days, they still have enough in the tank for one more over. Just one. After that, they can rest up and go on to the Big Dance. I think the trick is to find the hungriest team. The one that wants it bad. Real bad. That's the team you back on a day like today. Lucky for us, I found a great one.

Memphis Tigers Team Total Over 65.5 (-110) (Bet $110 to Win $100)

*Odds Available at FanDuel at Time of Publishing*

This one is hanging at FanDuel right now but if you want to play at DraftKings they have -115 which isn't terrible. The thing is, FanDuel is letting all the James Bond types get wild. They've got 68.5 +152, 71.5 +255 and 74.5 +400. If we're being honest, that's the best thing I've ever seen. There is a 100% chance I will be trying to hit one of those in the next week or so.

Taking teams to score more than 65.5 against Houston is usually a bad idea. Unless it's Memphis. That's because Houston sports the nation's 12th best defense. They legit hold teams to the 50s which is stupid good. Just 10 days ago they kept Temple to 46. Teams score that in the first half.

The Cougars have a secret though. They're borderline scamming us at this point. The real reason they hold teams to such meager point totals is that they play at such a slow pace. It almost feels like you're watching a soccer game at times. It's crazy slow. But, I don't think that will be the case today. At least I hope not. Nobody wants to watch soccer while they're watching basketball. That's dumb.

The thing about today is, Houston can't just hang around all day waiting to shoot. Memphis plays at the 31st fastest pace in the country. They press like it's in the rules that you have too. Because of that, the number of possessions goes up for each team. More possessions mean more chances for points. That's just how possessions work.

These teams have played twice this season already and Memphis won both times. In both games, the Tigers went over this point total. Now this game is for the conference so it will likely be pretty tight. Nerves should be around pretty early but still, 66 points is not a lot. They've gotten home on this number in 12 of their last 13 games. It could be close today, but I think they do it again.
