Davidson vs Michigan State Prediction: Bank on the More Well-Rounded Offense in March Madness

The Michigan State Spartans will clash with the Davidson Wildcats on Friday night for what should be a great game. The Spartans, who come from the Big Ten, come into this game as the number seven seed while Davidson enters play as the number ten seed.

Davidson fell in its conference championship game to the Richmond Spiders, losing a close competitive game after being up for the majority of the second half. The good news for Davidson is that they will get another opportunity here in this game. The line here has been flipping back and forth, but at the time of this article, the short favorite is Tom Izzo's Michigan State Spartans.

The public dog is going to be Davidson in this game, and I understand why. This is an extremely well-coached team with many guys not afraid of the moment. This is a team that is built to pull off an upset or two in March. There will be some revenge on the mind of junior guard and Michigan native Foster Loyer as he will face his former team. Loyer, a former Spartan, has been the leader of this Wildcats team this season. He is scoring a team-best 16.3 points per game while dishing out over a three-assist contest. The six-foot guard transferred out of the Michigan State program, so I am sure this game means a lot to him. The leader for this Michigan State team comes in the form of senior forward Gabe Brown. Brown, who has really improved his outside shooting since arriving in East Lansing, is the Spartan's best scorer averaging more than eleven points per game.

This is a Spartans roster that is talented across the board and has a lot of different guys stepping up. They do not have one pure star but rather play together as a team and share the basketball. The Spartans have three players who all averaged more than nine points per game, one being perhaps the most talented player on this roster, freshman guard Max Christe. Christie, a very high prospect coming out of the Illinois area, has continued to get better as the season progressed. If the Spartans want to avoid a first-round exit, he will have to step up and make some big-time shots.

I will be backing the Spartans in this game on Friday night. I think these two teams have a lot of similarities, but the one difference I believe could separate them is the advantage that Michigan State has in the paint. Michigan State is averaging nearly four more rebounds per game which is a large difference this time of year. The Spartans have big man Marcus Bigham Jr, a senior center that can really make things happen on the glass. I think he will be the x-factor in this game as he should be able to create extra chances on the offensive glass for the Spartans. He is also one of the best shot blockers in all of the nation, so nothing will come easy in the paint for Davidson.

I think Michigan State on the offensive side of the ball is more talented than Davidson. They have a team where every player is involved and can make an impact. Their well-balanced attack should be too much for the Wildcats to keep up with. I believe we are getting a gift of a line here at -1, so I will be all over that line.
