Richmond vs Iowa Prediction: Expect Iowa To Get Hot Early

The Iowa Hawkeyes will take on the Richmond Spiders in the first round on Friday. These teams both won their respective conferences on Sunday. The Spiders would not have been in this position if it wasn't for a late-game comeback against the Davidson Wildcats. The win for the Spiders will give them their first march madness game since the 2012 season when they were able to sneak their way into the sweet 16.

The spiders were also a number twelve seed when they last made march madness and made their push to the Sweet 16 that eventually ended when the number one seeded Kansas Jayhawks knocked them off. The Hawkeyes come into this game as the hottest team in the entire tournament playing with supreme confidence.

Iowa will be dancing once again as they have made the big dance now five times since 2014. This is a program that is definitely on the right path under head coach Fran McCaffery. The main reason they are in this position and the conference champions is Keegan Murray.

Murray is the favorite to win national player of the year and has been unreal this season for the Hawkeyes. He is a phenomenal scorer averaging 23.6 points per game which is good for fourth in all of the nation. He is also averaging 8.6 rebounds per game while shooting 55.5 percent from the floor. The 6'8 sophomore will be a match-up nightmare for the Spiders. If they want to try and double Murray, you have to be aware of the shooters for Iowa. The most notable is veteran guard Jordan Bohanon.

If it feels like Bohanon has been in college basketball for twenty years, its because he has been at Iowa since the 2016 season. This is his sixth year, and a lot of big ten teams are happy to see him go due to his outstanding three-point shooting. If Bohanon makes five threes in march madness, he will pass all-time great JJ Reddick for third all-time in made threes. This kid can flat out shoot, and the Hawkeyes will need his shooting thru the tournament.

The play I am turning to for this game is going to be Iowa on the first-half spread. I give a lot of credit to Richmond for winning the A-10, but I still do not buy much about this team. Yes, they are hot right now, but no one in the nation is as hot as the Hawkeyes. This is a loaded team playing with so much confidence that I just do not see Richmond staying close in terms of pace. This will be the best team Richmond plays all season long, and they will also play with a tempo that the Spiders are not used to.

The Spiders played in an ok conference, but they did not play one team in the top twenty-five all season long. The ability from Iowa to score in the paint paired with their snipers that can fill it up from three, the Spiders stand little to no chance in my eyes. I think Iowa comes out in the first twenty minutes and controls the game, and we can cash in on this line fairly easily. I also think you have to diagnose this line and understand how far off Richmond is. I believe a lot of people may look at this and think this time of year it is too many points with a team who just won their conference tournament. This line says blowout to me.
