Delaware surprisingly made the tournament this year. Will they have enough to clear their point total against Villanova?
ANALYSIS

Villanova vs Delaware Prediction: Will Delaware Clear Their Point Total?

The Delaware Blue Hens pulled off a couple of big upsets to punch their ticket into the big dance, but they will have a tall task if they want to keep dancing as they meet the Villanova Wildcats. Not many people are giving the fifteen-seeded Blue Hens much chance in this match-up. It is understandable why they are not because this is a loaded Villanova team.

Villanova vs Delaware Prediction

The best player on this team from a talent standpoint is probably Justin Moore but the leader of this team is senior guard Collin Gilespie. Gillespie, who led the Cats in scoring, dropping 15.9 points per game, will have to continue his stellar play thru the tournament if the Wildcats want a chance to win a national championship.

National Championships are a pretty normal thing for head coach Jay Wright who has won two national championships since 2016. Villanova has the most titles of any team since 2010. Jay Wright is one of the best coaches in the sport, and he will have his team well prepared to avoid a first-round upset.

The Blue Hens may just feel lucky to be here as they were written off by many once their conference tournament began. This is a Delaware team that is going to give everything that they have and try and shock the world. The leading scorer for the Hens has been Jameer Nelson Jr, who is scoring 13.7 while also being a great rebounder for a six-footer, ripping down five rebounds per game.

If that name sounds familiar, it is because his dad is the legendary Jammer Nelson. This season, Jr has been stunting like his daddy, especially in conference tournament play. He will have to have the game of his life along with his teammates to knock off the high-powered Cats.

The play I am going with here for this game is going to be the team total over for the Blue Hens, which is currently sitting at 58.5. This total is just far too low for a Delaware team that is pretty good on the offensive side and will play with some pace. The Blue Hens are averaging 73.8 points per game, granted that this Villanova team will be more difficult to score on than most of the other teams they have played.

I still think this game will be played with pace, which favors this short number. Villanova is a very good office team who likes to play with some tempo. This will allow more possessions for the Hens, and they will likely be playing this game from behind, which will force them to play fast in the second half. Villanova is a good defensive team, but they still are allowing north of sixty-three points per game. I just think this number here is too low for a team like Delaware. I think we can cash this play in fairly easily and get an early winner on Friday!
