Iowa State will face off with LSU tonight in what is expected to be one of the best games of round one. The Tigers made headlines last week when they fired head coach Will Wade. Wade, who violated multiple NCAA rules when recruiting, had led the Tigers to a very solid season in the SEC. The Tigers endured multiple injuries along the way, and many see them as a dangerous seven seed.

LSU vs. Iowa State Line Movement

The Cyclones were projected to be the worst team in the Big 12 pre-season. They silenced the critics ripping off massive wins along the way against Big 12 opponents. This is one of the hardest teams to read in the nation due to their Jekel and Hyde performances. The Cyclones have some really good wins on their resume, but they also have some head-scratching losses.

The catalyst for the Cyclones has been forward Isaiah Brockington. Brockinton, who is a Penn State transfer, was one of the best players overall in the Big 12 this season, and that is saying something. Iowa State really struggled at times to score the basketball, but their stellar defense will typically keep them in games. LSU is also an excellent defensive team, so this game could be a rock fight tonight. These seven versus ten games are typically some of the best of March Madness so expect a good one here tonight. 

The play I am turning to is going to be to back the LSU Tigers but on the first half with the short spread. I love the way LSU plays on the defensive end, and I believe they match up very well across the board with the Cyclones. They should have a large advantage in the paint with their big men. They are finally healthy, which is key in this game tonight. I believe if the Tigers stayed healthy all season long that they would’ve been one of the toughest teams to beat in the SEC. Tari Eason has been the best player for the Tigers coming off the bench, but Darius Days and Xavier Pinson should be able to step up and use their experience against this Iowa State team. I just do not see Iowa State being able to score enough points in this game, especially early in the first half, to keep up with LSU. The defense for the Tigers will be too much for the Cyclones.
