The Bulldogs roster is headlined by start big man Drew Timme. Even though it feels like Timme has been in college forever, he is back for another season. Timme is one of the favorites to win player of the year, and for a good reason. Gonzaga also returns two of their better guards from a season ago in Julian Strawther and senior Rasir Bolton. Texas enters play ranked eleventh in the nation. This is a team that did make the tournament last year, but they underperformed in the eyes of many. They are led by now second-year head coach Chris Beard who is very optimistic about this Texas roster. The Longhorns landed one of the most sought-after transfers in the nation in Tyrese Hunter. Hunter was a standout last season for Iowa State, and he will look to enjoy similar success this year.
Texas also landed guard Sir’Jabari Rice in the portal. Rice had great success at New Mexico State a season ago and brings a lot of experience and scoring to this roster. They return pivotal players from a season ago in, Marcus Carr and Timmy Allen. Texas comes in as a two-point home favorite tonight.Â
I am trusting the line here and backing the Longhorns. This is the first time since the 2019-2020 season that Gonzaga has been an underdog, and I am going to trust the line tonight. I think that Texas has the better guard play here, and now they have some bodies that clash with Timme and can hold him down.
I think Chris Beard is a great head coach, and I believe that he will adjust in this game to what happened when these teams played last season. Texas is one of the best defenses in college basketball, and I will trust them tonight. I am all in on the Longhorns tonight. Let’s stay hot and cash in!Â
