St. Marys vs. Gonzaga Prediction

The Gonzaga Bulldogs vs. the Saint Mary Gaels will clash from Moraga, California, for what is set to be the most anticipated WCC matchup of the year. These are the top two teams in the WCC, and the winner of this game will sit at the top of the conference. We all know that the Zags have owned this conference for the last few seasons, but Saint Marys is showing they are the new kids on the block.

The Gaels are undefeated in conference play to this stage in the season, but this is the game they have been eating for. It is tough to call these two teams mid-majors, but technically they are, and they have been two of the best mid-major teams over the last five years or so. Since 2009 St Marys and Gonzaga have been the only teams to win the WCC. The Zags have won eleven, while St Marys has won three in that span. This year the Gales have been led by a well-balanced attack. Four of their five starters average double digits, which makes them a difficult team to shut down.

Gonzaga meanwhile has had a disappointing season by their standards but do not let that fool you. This is still a very good team. The Zags come in with a record of 19-4, which has earned them the number twelve ranking in college basketball. Despite the higher ranking, Gonzaga enters as at green and-a-half-point underdog. 

I am backing the Zags with the points tonight. Listen, I love this St Marys team, and I believe they can have a lot of success come March, but in a game that I see being back and forth, I want the points. People have been very hard on the Zags this season, and I understand why, but this is still an extremely talented team that will have matchup advantages in this game. I expect a lot of people to like St Marys tonight, but I am going to fade that trend and back the better team tonight.
