Wyoming vs. UNLV Prediction: Can The Cowboys Survive Their Roster Turnover?
The UNLV Rebels are heading to Laramie for what should be an epic battle against Wyoming. I’ve mentioned it in previous articles, but if you need a reminder, I’ve never seen a team plagued by the injury and illness bug in my entire life than this year’s Wyoming Cowboys. After showing signs of life the last week or so, Wyoming announced that star guard Noah Reynolds will be out for the remainder of the season with a concussion. To make matters worse, this tweet dropped a few minutes ago…
This sudden departure leaves Wyoming with only six players available who average more than ten minutes a game. How will Wyoming even make this a game? Good thing they still have Hunter Maldonado.

Wyoming vs. UNLV Prediction
Don’t look now, but Maldonado is starting to play like the star we all know he is. Coming off his best game of the season (34 points, four rebounds, and three assists), Hunter will have to win this game on his own. In front of his home crowd in Laramie, one of the toughest places to play in the country with its increased elevation, I’m expecting him to replicate his last performance. Hunter is huge for a point guard. At 6’7” and over 200 pounds, UNLV’s extremely small roster will struggle to contain Maldonado. Expect him to attack the rim consistently and effectively tonight against the Rebels.
UNLV started the season red hot. Many expected them to actually make some noise in the Mountain West this year. Well, it was fun while it lasted! The Rebels have come back down to earth of late and even lost to Fresno State at home as ten-point favorites in their last game. I never thought I’d say this, but the party is officially over in Vegas (at least for their college basketball team).
When I saw this line open up at UNLV -2, I thought it was a mistake. Then we get the announcement that three more guys are leaving the team, and the line only moves one point. A Wyoming team in last place without not only their best player but three other role players, is only getting three points against the 15-8 UNLV Rebels? Something smells fishy, and I want in.
The betting splits are great and UNLV is a public short favorite in a conference game at one of the toughest arenas to play at in the country. I’ll be betting the line and not the teams in this late-night Mountain West duel. Trust Hunter Maldonado to bring the coins home safe and sound, even if he has to do it himself.
