Northwestern vs. Iowa Prediction

The Iowa Hawkeyes vs. the Northwestern Wildcats will duel things out from Evanston, Illinois, for a much anticipated Big Ten matchup. Both of these teams enter play red hot and feel great about their play lately. Let’s start with the visiting Hawkeyes.

Fran McCaffery once again has his team firmly locked into the big dance, and it is a matter of seeding at this point. Iowa has been led by Kris Murray, averaging a team-high 21.0 points per game. Murray has been one of the best offensive weapons in the nation this year, but he is not alone. Iowa is one of the best offenses in basketball, averaging 81 points per game. The Hawkeyes enter this game as winners of five of their last six.

The Wildcats, meanwhile, sit alone in second place in the Big Ten, and they are just 1.5 games behind Purdue for the top team in the conference. This is a surprise to many as nobody had Northwestern finishing at the top of the Big Ten in the preseason. The main reason for their success is their dynamic backcourt which is made up of seniors Boo Buie and Chase Audige. The Cats are too heavy because they are their only double-digit scorers, but their role players have been much more productive lately, which is a huge reason why they come in on a four-game win streak. The Wildcats' last loss came on February 2nd when Michigan knocked them off 68-51.

I am backing the Hawkeyes on the moneyline tonight. Let’s look at this line for a second. Northwestern has won four straight games, and they have been great at home all season, yet they are dogs? That looks too good to be true, and I will trust the line here. This game will be about which team can establish their pace. Iowa wants to turn this game into a track meet and play into the eighties or above, while the Wildcats want to muck this game up and play in the sixties; I believe that Iowa will be able to establish their game flow and come away with a road win tonight.
