ANALYSIS

Michigan State vs. Indiana Prediction, Pick, Odds: Should We Trust the Spartans?

As many are still getting over the terrible events that took place last week in East Lansing, tonight is an opportunity for the school to heal together, and take their minds off the tragic events they’ve endured. Michigan State head coach Tom Izzo is a great guy, who’s changed the Spartans program for the better. He knows more than anyone that the game tonight provides a rare opportunity to help the school come together in a time of need. He will make sure his players are locked in mentally, emphasizing that the game tonight isn’t just about them. On primetime national television, the Spartans can not only deliver a much-needed win for the standings, but for the school.

Michigan State vs Indiana Prediction

There isn’t a sport where emotions matter more than college basketball. I give a significant edge to the Spartans in this contest tonight just by pure emotions alone. Tom Izzo isn’t losing this game. Michigan State isn’t losing this game. This one is too important for the well-being of the entire school. You will be able to see the motivation through the effort we get out of the Spartans on the court tonight. It doesn’t hurt that Indiana has struggled on the road in years passed, along with this season as well. The Hoosiers are always dominant at Assembly Hall, but when they have to take a trip on the road, that’s when we see them underperform. Indiana is 2-7-1 ATS on the road so far this year; don’t expect that trend to improve tonight.

When these two teams battled it out last month, Indiana dominated Sparty, winning by 13. After Indiana easily covered and won that first matchup, now we’re seeing Indiana up to -3.5 tonight. The line opened up at MSU -2, but sharps have hammered the line up to 3.5. Is the public hammering Michigan State because they want to root for the school after a brutal week, or have sharps hammered this line because it's a sketchy line and a good matchup for the home team? I think it’s a little bit of both, and I’m not getting scared of this side just because it's a little public.

Trayce Jackson-Davis has been one of, if not the best player in the nation this season. There aren’t many players around the sport capable of slowing him down. Luckily for the Spartans, they have one of the handfuls of guys who have a chance. Although Mady Sissoko will have his hands full, he possesses the size and strength needed to slow down TJD. The remaining Indiana roster is very inconsistent; if Sissoko and the Spartans slow town Trayce or get him in foul trouble, they have a great chance to win.

I’ve talked about it in recent weeks about how the Spartans have found their closer in Ty Walker. When the game comes down to the final play, this is a kid I want to have the ball in his hands. Walker has that dog in him and is the finisher for the Spartans. Add veteran Joey Hausser to the mix and you’ve got two of the oldest most consistent players in the Big Ten. Walker will lead the Spartans to a much-needed emotional win.
