Minnesota vs Nebraska Prediction: Will the Gophers Play Spoiler in the Big 10 Tourney?

Nebraska has been on fire to end the season, winning and covering four of their previous five games. They just beat Iowa on the road as 11.5-point underdogs. Many expect Nebraska to continue building momentum as we head into the conference tourney. I believe the Huskers' recent success provides us an opportunity to fade the better team at a solid number.

Minnesota vs Nebraska Prediction

These teams have already played twice this season, with Nebraska sweeping the season series. Two weeks ago, Nebraska beat Minnesota by 10+ when the Gophers were in another sharp spot, unable to cover the +7.5. After Minnesota covered that game relatively easily, the line tonight is short. Minnesota opened up at +6.5, and we're seeing some +5’s floating around currently. I’d grab this line before it gets even shorter. It’s also worth noting Nebraska is bringing in over 75% of bets and 70% of the handle on the spread, and the line has moved in the opposite direction. This reverse line movement is a great sign for Minnesota backers.

I mentioned Dawson Garcia earlier. The sophomore has been playing great in the latter half of Big 10 play. His worst game over the past two months was against Nebraska; I’m sure he will be hyped up to avenge this performance tonight. He’s been the only consistent offensive piece for the Gophers this season. Jamison Battle is the most talented scorer on Minnesota, but has been far too inconsistent of late. Battle’s points prop is high today, sitting at 13.5. He has only crossed this number once in the past two weeks. It looks like the books are expecting a Jamison Battle legacy performance tonight against Nebraska. This is a great sign for the Gophers.

Minnesota has the more talented roster between these two teams facing off in the first round. They have yet to put the pieces together and play like the team we’ve expected all year. When the regular season ends, and conference tourneys start, these are the teams we want to be targeting to bet on. It’s the teams we know have the talent, but haven’t lived up to the hype. Once the conference tournaments start, these teams tend to level up and show out in the postseason. Minnesota badly needed a “fresh start,” and they have one tonight. Everyone at this point of the season is 0-0. Regular season records or accolades don’t matter, this is a whole new ball game. Back the Gophers to look revitalized in their second chance to make some noise in the Big 10.
