Gonzaga vs. TCU Prediction

You have to be impressed with this Gonzaga team down the stretch. They closed the regular season on fire, destroying almost every team in their path. Drew Timme has one last chance to prove to the nation that he is one of the best college basketball players of all time. With the help of Julian Strawther and Rasir Bolton, Timme and the Zags put up plenty of points.

Without big Eddie Lampkin Jr., TCU lacks depth in the frontcourt. JaKobe Coles has done a nice job of filling in for the big man, but will it be enough to contain Timme? Whether Gonzaga wins/covers this game or not, Drew Timme will get whatever he wants against this weak TCU frontcourt. If he stays out of foul trouble, expect Timme to drop closer to 30 against TCU; this game will be very high scoring.

Timme cashing his points prop doesn’t mean the Frogs can’t win this game or, more importantly, cover. This one should be a shootout, considering the highest total of the day is in this game. Mike Miles and Damion Baugh should dominate Gonzaga’s offense-first backcourt. Although Strawther and co. are great players, they’ve been burned badly by guards at San Francisco and Loyola Marymount this year. What’s going to happen when they face one of the best backcourts in the nation tonight?

These teams like to run, and TCU can certainly keep up with the Zags if they try to push the pace. The Frogs may even prefer it; Emanuel Miller seems to thrive in transition, and Damion Baugh has the court vision to lead the charge down the floor. If Gonzaga tries to outrun TCU and tire them out, they may be playing right into the Horned Frogs’ biggest strength.

Was anyone else a little surprised to see TCU only getting 4.5 points in this matchup? I know this has been a great year athletically for TCU, but that’s some serious respect for their basketball program against one of the nation’s best. Oddsmakers are expecting this to be a close one, and I’ll take it one step further.

TCU matches up great with all aspects of Gonzaga except for Timme, but we’ve seen dominant backcourts take advantage of the Zags' weak perimeter defense before. I think this one goes down to the last possession. If you’re looking for a cheeky late-night bankroll builder, bet this game to go into overtime at a solid price of (+1260). The Frogs can hang with anyone.
