Amir Khan vs. Kell Brook Fight Preview, Prediction, and Pick

After years of back and forth and steady deliberation, touted welterweight staples Amir Khan and Kell Brook finally look to settle their bitter rivalry in the Manchester Arena on Saturday, February 19th. Perhaps a little past the expiration date for some hardcore watchers, these mid-30-year-old former world champions never the less aim to use one another's name to rekindle their respective boxing careers and perhaps make even one last run to the title.

Amir Khan Preview

Amir Khan (34-5, 21 KO's) is an orthodox fighter with decent pop in his hands. Still, it is predominantly revered for his lightning-fast fluidity and general speed when he lets his combinations fly all over his adversary's face. His almost inhuman quickness has led to him outmaneuvering and outhustling the likes of Marcos Maidana and Zab Judah, with success and winning a multitude of rounds against Canelo in their fight before meeting his eventual demise. The age might finally slow down this speedster, however, and that aspect of the game, as well as his perennial glass chin, may pose a grave dilemma when he goes toe to toe with the authoritative, commanding operator in Kell Brook.

Kell Brook Preview

"Special K" holds a similar record of 39 wins and just three losses, with 27 victories coming by knockout. As his resume suggests, Mr. Brook is an enigmatic finisher, someone who implements an arsenal of stiff jabs and grueling, bombastic hooks to render the opposition obsolete. However, even though he is the same age as his rival, Kell Brook's style of fighting will probably go in large part unaffected as he will rely on his formidable raw power to put Khan's lights out. Not any grandiose technique or anything, just depending on muscle twitch fibers that fade over time.

Khan vs. Brook Prediction

So how, in fact, does this grudge match play out this coming weekend? On paper, it is quite a binary matchup with the technical and fast going up against the rugged and powerful, something we have seen all too much in combat sports.

Although we have seen Khan bottle some critical matchups in the past, at the end of the day, apart from experiencing a mental lapse where he gets starched from a punch he does not see coming, I think he's going to roll in this spot. I do not believe father time has caught up with the game plan Amir Khan brings every time, and due to that aspect, he will be one step ahead of his aggressor's movements as the rounds go by. Of course, Brook has quite the biggest puncher's chance of all time, considering Khan's affinity to sprawl on the canvas whenever a few clean shots get in. However, that chance is all he has as Kell is fundamentally just not as sound as Khan. His already stellar repertoire of boxing know-how stemming from his Olympic silver medal-winning days combined with reported training from PFP #2 in the world, Terrance Crawford, should prove the deciding factors.

The fact that he is training with the man who bested Brook while also sucking up to his ego and training with the man who also bested HIM shows that Amir Khan is as serious and determined as he has ever been. And if history has shown us anything, it is that victory is the child of determination.
